Yeah, I recognize their importance, but I also wish Black films were more ambitious in scope (like fantasy or sci-fi, stuff like that). Seems like the vast majority of Black films are historical pieces or grounded, realistic comedies or dramas.

He can literally pay thousands of dollars to people who's career it is to soften harsh blows in the media, aka PR. Every apology you hear from a celeb is crafted/edited by a team. They want you to think he's a genuinely good person so that his career has the strongest chance. Don't assume too much about people you don't know, whether it's good or bad.

Rock cared a lot as did a lot of other comedians. The Oscars is basically one of the safest stages available to actors and Chris Rock getting smacked on stage sends a message that it's something you should do if any comedian pisses you off anywhere.

Of course many of them won't be performing in super secure venues. It happened again shortly after with Chappelle and it is not a coincidence.

IIRC Chris jokes about it saying "wow I got slapped by Will Smith", and when Smith made the infamous "get my wife's name out of your mouth" he said "okay, okay", and then kept rambling about unrelated things. he definitely seem flustered after that.
