Alright so it looks like some visual glitches are unavlidable but it's worth it if the animations work lol.

Yeah, like Isquen said, Jakob and Felicia are a little different and are pre-promotes in name alone. They earn EXP at the same rate as Corrin et al. so you don't need to feel bad about them taking kills, and similar to Dancers or Manaketes they level all the way to 40 without promoting or changing class. Any other unit that you promote or change into a Maid/Butler work in a more conventional way.

Gunter is... certainly a climb down even from where Frederick was.

It's a shame because I think visually Gunther is probably the coolest looking character in his archetype.

Vander...MIGHT end up taking his crown? I don't THINK so but we'll have to see more of him.

Jeralt would be #1 if you could actually use him.

Anyway Jakob and Felicia are pretty good actually. Good support characters, and there's a run of like 5-10 chapters where Felicia in particular just pops off and is basically my MVP

Gunter just sucks lol. Rinkah too unfortunately, despite looking cool as hell

Because the numbers are so wonky so far and I don't know the classes, I don't know who's a prepromote and who isn't, lol.

Prepromotes should all be pretty obvious barring Jakob/Felicia. Those two essentially just go from level 1 to 40 starting in a promoted class instead of from level 1 to 20, promote then repeat. Which gives them access to some skills at much earlier levels than normal without having any sort of experience penalty, so it's purely beneficial beyond not having promotion bonuses to look forward to.

I didn't remember at all that there was, like, functional differences between the two games.

Birthright = world map, like Sacred Stones and Awakening
Conquest = no world map, like Blazing Blade and Tellius

Is there actually a difference? I thought it was all the same menu, it's just that Birthright and Revelation had an option to do random encounters.

I assume if I chose to start branch of fate when I come back for Conquest, I'll be more EXP deprived than if I go there from scratch?

I think it's weapon triangle. Main color is the color associated with it. Bottom color is the color it beats.

Oh, it's that simple? I guess the color line will be different for breaker weapons.

And no, I just created the list using a generic tier maker page for Birthright and throwing them all in the same tier, easiest way to get a visual spread for all the characters (I did not look at character viability for any of these other than using all the royals, just went by who it looked like I wanted to use).

Overall I think the supports have been a lot better so far than Awakening's, at least on average.

I've only fully played Birthright once, stopped a second playthrough near the end sometime a year or two ago and I can't remember much at all about its supports beyond that I don't think I liked many people

I don't think I'm necessarily into most of the CHARACTERS that much so far (I don't like Corrin, lol), but most of the supports are actually like...actual conversations about things that are happening or people actually doing things, and not just people talking about or pointing out their personality quirks to eachother.

I dunno if Awakening's was dumb. Pretty standard time travel stuff. At least it made sense even if someone may think it's dumb.

Fates saw what worked in Awakening and tried to shoehorn a 2nd generation in to a disastrous degree imo.

Oh and since you were talking characters...half of them were ripped from Awakening both in design and personality. And actually literally I guess but I never got that far to find that out or why. I despise Fates so much.

The Awakening method wasn't that bad, but after experience the real deal with Geneology nothing else is gonna come close.

Time travel works for it but it needed to be pulled off better.

Which really is just most of Awakenings problems. "It just needed to be done better".

I have a certain amount of sympathy with IS regarding the Fates 2nd gen. 2nd gen kids were such a popular addition to Awakening that they must have felt compelled to include it again in Fates, but it just didn't make any logical sense to have grown up kids in the setting they'd created. Any justification they created was either going to be nonsense or contrived.

Having said that, as much as I like some of the 2nd gen, they're a major contributor to one of my main gripes with Fates - far too many playable units. This is obviously much more stark in Revelations, but if it were up to me I would've kept the royals split between versions but cut the dedicated retainers and have the remaining recruitable units shared between routes. So Conquest would look something like Corrin, Jakob/Felicia, Azura, Xander, Camilla, Leo, Elise and then 20 or so units also available in the other two routes.
