Emmeryn's death and the aftermath is prob my favorite story beat in Awakening yeah, even if it suffers from the same lack of breathing room that all of Awakening's plot does

It's basically Revelation Gunter, maybe OG Mystery Aran? Eyvel too although she's good for the early chapters she exists in. Conquest Gunter is actually surprisingly solid when he rejoins thanks to his great class access and a nice personal, FE12 Aran and Frederick are nigh-mandatory on Lunatic, FE11 Jagen is one of the best units in the game, etc. Jagens are traditionally super good, Aran and Fred are legit two of the worst ones despite carrying the fuck out of you for multiple chapters (and Fred being valuable literally all game because Great Knight pair up bonuses are sick and his weapon ranks allow for effective weapon dual strikes which are great in the Valm arc especially)

I think it's funny that the S Support for Olivia!Chrom is specifically implying it's like the first time they've ever talked, since there's no way to get a natural S support and C/B/A cannot exist alongside it.

So here's the big mistake I made back hen I first played Awakening: zero patience. Unlocked the children the instant they were avaible. Obviously this means skill pass down from the parents is basically non existent.

This time, I'm going to make sure the at least ONE parent of every pair reaches level 15 promoted before unlocking them, in a class that the child won't be promoting to.

Just for kids I may end up using of course.

You can make a very silly Inigo if you take the time to invest in Olivia by reclassing her to Dark Flier so that she passes down Galeforce. He'll already have strong Skill and Luck but when you add Rightful King on top of that he'll be proccing skills like crazy.

I posit I'm going to hell for last VGMC, calling the track that plays during that chapter "Exalt's Gravitational Experiment."

Eh, you can kinda make Aran good since stat boosters are so good in that game and caps are so low. Starshards can help too. It's just hard to justify when Palla and Sirius are right there.

Had to save until later after entering, but I'm like 90% sure this chapter 12 map is 1:1 with chapter 3 of PoR.

Turns out it was Mitama and I totally forgot she existed. TBF a lot of Fates 2nd generation characters are very forgettable.

A lot of Fates characters don't even have official art.

To be fair, nothing character already makes him better than 90% of the Fates cast.

They definitely went full Icarus to the sun after Awakening's success. It's amazing to think that 3H was them pulling back.

It's mostly the Hoshidan side that are guilty of being forgettable. Then there's Ophelia who steals every scene she's in.

I think the Mustafa chapter is a little ridiculous with how much they're delivering the empathy. The guards wanting to run away, Mustafa being all like "yeah, it's cool, you can go, but I will stay", all of it is just a little overdone. The music is very nice, though.

I know that Jeigans are generally very good, but I am surprised to hear that Frederick is a lower tier one. He seems great to me. Is that more because the cast of Awakening is just so good as opposed to other games where the cast isn't as strong?

Awakening and Fates definitely have some very forgettable characters. Fates has kind of an easy way to remember 1st gen since basically everyone is a royal or a retainer, but 2nd gen is really whatever. I think I'm a little higher on Fates characters than most, but they're not good!

Frederick definitely gets some "meh" vibes as a Jeigan because he's coming off the heels of Titania and Seth, and in a game where you can reclass almost at-will.

He's by no means bad; he's just much closer to your own army's power, levelwise, than the stereotypical one.

Going ham with Master Seals to get level 5 promoted abilities to pass down to the kids.

God this is not the way I play these games usually, it feels so wierd. I hope I'm not fucking everything up lol.

I'm not about to get all nuts with it, no second sealing units I'm not planning on using just to pass down skills or something, though I'll likely go second seal for a lot of the kids.

And fuck the Galeforce meta, I'm not waiting until ANYONE reaches promoted level 15 before unlocking their kid, screw that. If a kid wants Galeforce they're gonna have to get it themselves.

Not if they're male they won't! But generally speaking I agree, I'd only bother with that for specific pet projects.

Literally never even gave it a glance the first time through! Just got the kids as they came did whatever, kept them in their starting class.

I honestly didn't use the kids outside of Lucina at all. I prioritize units with plot relevance who I also have an emotional attachment to, and a bunch of newbies coming in halfway through the game didn't do anything for me. They should have been interesting considering they came from a ruined timeline, and that's my jam, but Lucina was the only character where I felt like it truly mattered.

I don't feel like a lot of first gen characters are particularly attached to the story either, though. Outside the core group, they pretty much all show up, say one or two lines, and then are sent to the support dimension. Virion gets cutscene to introduce Cherche, prior to that he didn't even get one for himself! Is Sully ever in a cutscene? Ricken gets 2...I mean it goes on like that, at least Sumia was in a CG.

Compare that to like...the Brom and Nephenee chapter in Radiant Dawn. Yeah there's no more Brom and Nephenee in actual plot after that, but it was very much THEIR chapter, and it was an actual relevant story where they mattered.

Yeah, outside of Lucina there isn't much mention of the Grima-wins timeline in the main game. I don't know if it was deliberately left over for the Future Past DLC, but it's pretty interesting at least. I can only assume since the 2nd gen is by it's very nature optional they didn't want the plot of a run where you didn't unlock everyone looking disjointed or something, or maybe I'm just giving IS too much credit.

I think I put the 2nd gen overall about on par with the first gen. Both have units I don't generally use, but I'll always make sure to unlock a few like Severa, Inigo, Kjelle and Owain.

Like Tcaz said, if you showed me a picture of her out of context before today, I would have said "that's a fan character", or more likely a Heroes original.

This is true but at least they have seniority. You have 20+ hours to get at least a little attached to Gen 1. I wasn't replacing them for the kid squad.

Mitama was the warm-up for unleashing Hilda on the world.

There was a time period in FEH when Awakening/Fates newbie fans were complaining about not getting their 4th strike obscure personal favorite child character. Entire games weren't even represented yet. Thankfully the scales have been balanced since then.

I have always and will always think they should have entirely replaced the Walmart storyline in the middle of the game with a 'you get taken to Lucina's timeline' arc and you see just how bad it is there before coming back to the original timeline and kicking Validar/Grima's ass.

Does not require the other children units at all. Just say they've already left so you don't meet them there.

All it requires is BSing some reason you can get back to the original map to recruit the kids for any pairings you do during it which really shouldn't be too hard considering there's already a dimensional portal in the setting.

Have the Avatar be from the future too. He's a failed Grima clone vessel who lost his memory or something. That way you still get the Shocking Twist, Lucina can be the Lord stand-in like Chrom was, and you can still marry your waifus.

For the record, what I'm proposing is still way less out-there than some of the original ideas for Awakening.

Among the concepts were a modern-day setting or using the planet Mars as a setting.

Obviously it would have to take place on the planet Marth.
