Shes now 18 months and starting a Montessori toddler program. Shes been on the wait list since January. It looks like a really nice school and its a 7 minute walk from our house.

Im going to bawl my eyes out when I drop her off. Shes been home every day with a nanny while we wfh. But nanny costs too much. All daycares around here have a waitlist but this was the least expensive and closest so we decided to have a nanny until a spot opened up.

She got big on me so fast. I dont know how Ill feel with the house being so quiet all day. Not getting to see her face during my breaks or lunch.

Im just as puzzled. But theyre wayyyy cheaper than other options by a good 800-1000 a month. But I think its because of the area were in being a newer development and I think the HOA must go towards it. Either way I wont question it lol

Ideally Id love a nanny that would just come to our house for 40 hours a week.

I feel like Ill probably end up working third shift, and watching the baby during the day

Uh... black and white socks and other white parts? Green eyes. Not a full on Sylvester type but definitely has some poofy fur. I can try to get a pic later if she decides to grace me with her presence. She seems more likely to follow me to my room to check on me when I'm like, lonely and sadge and stuff

Our nanny came to about $3000 a month at $20/hr for 35 hours a week. Apparently we got her for a steal because friends of mine say nannies are now asking $25+ There were cheaper options at $15/hr but most are college students who only do afternoons after school not full days or the occasional babysitting.

Daycare will be $1350 for about the same number of hours. Others that I called in the neighborhood were around $2100-2400. I have no idea why this one is so affordable but I dont want to risk asking them lol

Yeah it might be cheaper in your area. The prices I gave are for SoCal and everything is more expensive here. We found our nanny on care.com. Its like a dating app for nannies lol its a mess trying to find one that isnt flaky but we found 2 gems using the site

Lol its a pretty cushy job. My daughter is pretty independent. Our nanny would make her breakfast, take her to the park, make her lunch, put her to nap (and then nap herself), then maybe fold her laundry occasionally. She had access to anything she wanted in our fridge and pantry as well.

Thats what I tell myself. My daughter is super social too. I know she will have fun with other kids and learn a bunch more than at home. I on the other hand had no daycare or even preschool. I went straight to kindergarten with minimal interaction with other kids and I struggled with social anxiety for years. So I know this is for the best for her. Im still going to cry my eyes out lol

Were in Cleveland, so cheaper CoL in comparison.

Apparently day care can be like 40k around here, which would basically eat my salary lol

We have a babysitter and sometimes one of her daughters watch our daughter and usually a child of my partner's friend (it's been a different friend every year since they last 1 school year before they find someone else lol). My daughter is 26 months old now. The sitters charge $260 a week. Very cheap and they babysit at my partner's parents' house. Which is about 4 minutes away from my job. So I drop my daughter off every morning. There's a bit of a language barrier though since the sitter doesn't speak English and only 1 of her daughters is fluent. The sitter is a relative of a family friend of my partner. Found out yesterday though that they've been giving our daughter soda.

Well imo two high earning parents are also beneficial. We can provide her with everything and that to me is more important than one of us leaving six figure jobs to stay with her.

Wow what a great deal! We have no family around and no one we knew that wed feel comfortable enough leaving her with like that. I would flip my shit if I found out they were sneaking her soda though. I was pissed my mother in law was visiting last week and snuck junk snacks while at the park with her. But I held my tongue because it was the one time.

Congrats to the little one and you Cleo!

We currently have a nanny who is $13/hr for 35 hours a week. She's like a 20 year old kid who actually used to work in a daycare but the distance was too far. She lives like 10 minutes from us so being our nanny was convenient for her too.

My daughter is 7 months old now and she'll begin daycare at roughly the 14 month mark. Her seat is already locked in and we'll be paying them around $350/month from now until she starts - this money ultimately will go towards her tuition.

Yeah i can't imagine dropping my kid off at a daycare. Partly because i don't know how these places take care of so many kids at once when mine and others are so needy. Also because im cheap. My son has become a little less needy and particular though since he just turned one.
Glad my wife works the weekdays 8-5 and my job is flexible where i can work friday and saturday nights.

Think eventually we will be needing a babysitter for one day so i can consistently work more.

Wow so cheap! Where do you live? Kinda crazy that youre being asked to pay every month just to reserve a spot though. We paid $150 to be on the wait list and that was put towards tuition. Then when her spot was available it was a one month deposit which is last months tuition.

Yeah I wouldnt have put her earlier. 18 months is where I felt most comfortable because shes a lot more self sufficient now and can communicate to a degree. I know they have a ratio of 6 kids per teacher but it will help her learn structure and to listen to the teacher. Im more worried about another kid hurting her or being mean. I plan on putting her in some karate or kung fu classes to learn self defense. None of that love and peace crap, I will be teaching my daughter to fight back if anyone messes with her.

Yeah we live in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. We used nannylane and Care.com for our nanny search and we definitely saw some of the sky high prices that you alluded to. There were a few gems in the $16-$17/hr range, but this kid we ultimately settled on was a no brainer. We interviewed her at the house and our daughter seemed very receptive to her. Plus she already had a decent background in working daycares and her references checked out. Seemed an easy hire and she's been great (lol I never see her because I work so much - the wife works remotely).

The reason why we're paying to maintain her seat at the daycare is because 1) we're deferring for so long and 2) her seat is guaranteed. I'm looking forward to her starting as we checked the daycare out and it looks nice. We were about to have her start much sooner because we couldn't find a nanny. Now that we've secured one, we can keep her home longer until she's a year old or so before we start.

Today was the second day and we were told to expect it to be harder than the first because kids know whats coming this time. Only she was so excited today when we were walking in. She was all smiles. When we left she didnt cry at all. Shes loving it and that makes me really happy.
