I mean.. Adults definitely like animated movies. Disney movies are family movies, not necessarily kids movies.

it's not like they just bought the company who invented the adult animated sitcom. one that has lasted three decades, and spawned hundreds of others. that'd be crazy.

I'm pretty sure saying "the kid in all of us" is an acknowledgment that adults do like animation/Disney.

I feel like most people are also aware there's a difference between stuff that's Disney (Frozen, Little Mermaid, etc) and stuff Disney owns (Marvel, Star Wars, etc)

Regardless, there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that Disney animated movies are primarily targeted at kids. If you enjoy them as an adult, more power to you, but don't expect those things to cater to you as an adult.

A lot of anime is for kids, too.
Hell, most shonen are explicitly aimed at kids, at least in Japan.

That said, I do disagree with him. He clearly has the "cartoons are for kids" mentality, which flies at odds with Disney making family entertainment. Then again, I suppose he was made to be CEO for his ability to make the company money, not his thoughts on cartoons.

There's a weird thing now where people seem to expect things they liked as a kid to age with them, rather than be passed on to the next generation.

These people need to realize these things are no longer for them. If they enjoy them as they are, that's awesome, but don't expect the content to change to suit you as an adult.

I see it a lot with Dragon Ball where people complain about all the cheesy, illogical stuff while forgetting at it's core its a show for young guys to see big explosions and cool fights.

(AMA by the series creator)
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/q1x1uh/ama_except_by_anything_i_mean_these_questions_only/

SO WHAT WAS IT?! At the end of the day, there are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn't fit that "brand". The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn't fit this one guy's tastes. That's it! Ain't that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is.

In any case, there are still a lot of awesome TOH episodes left to come out, and all the support IS seen and appreciated. Not only does it support the crew but it encourages studios to take bigger risks on shows coming down the pipeline. And, who knows? Maybe there's a future for the Owl House world if DTV has different people in charge.

Escapism and fun in general is treated like kids stuff unless it a very specific "adult" hobby like spectator sports or traveling, which are just as wasteful and irresponsible but don't have the same stigma for some reason.

They're literally just three hour video game cutscenes leading up to post-credits scenes that set up the next three hour video game cutscene. The MCU exists to push merchandise. It's the modern-day equivalent of cartoons from the 1980s.

It's always been a thing in society that some people assume if something is animated, it's for kids

When Princess Mononoke first came out in theaters in America, parents took little kids to it. Then walked out in digust like 20 minutes into the movie. I was there to expirence it. It happened at my showing

That would be a fair point if any of the character's were complex to any degree.

Like, what do you really need to know? Goku likes to fight and Vegeta wants to surpass Goku. I think most people can pick that up in an ep or two. At this point in DBS none of the other characters really even matter.

I mean, you're forgetting DBZ also came out when the only way to watch it was to catch whatever episode happened to be playing that day. Most people probably started DBZ by catching a random episode in the middle of an arc and figuring out who everyone was later.

Can confirm. My very first episode of DBZ was one I saw at 11:30 pm during midnight run. Trunks vs. Perfect Cell.

I did not understand anything, but as it went, the expository dialogue told me a whole lot. Enough for me to feel strangely invested.

Some people would have a heart attack if they saw the marketing from the 80s. Terminator 1 +2, Alien/s, Predator, and Robocop are some of the most violent mainstream movies ever made, but they were heavily marketed to kids.

I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty.
