You realize what this is actually saying is "If we remove poor people from the forum, it will be better", right?

No? It is saying that if you aren't the product then you are only going to use it if it makes your life better.

Because you are the product of social media, social media tries to make you as valuable as possible by trying to suck as much time and engagement out of you as humanly possible

You need to learn to read between the lines.

People pay for social media with their clicks. Ad revenue is generated through sucking as much time and engagement out of you as humanly possible.

Adding a paywall just means that you're reducing clicks and trying to replace them with subscriptions.

The real effect? Remove people who can't pay.

"If we remove the undesirables, the forum will be better" is the real statement. If the person who wrote the book doesn't realize that's what they're saying, then they're as naive as you are.

The thing Elon doesn't understand, is that the verified are (usually) THE content, while the unverified masses are the consumers.

So then you have the "content" paying to get their posts priority in the algorithm, and the consumers, the people who you want the most engaged for ad revenue, are going to be algorithmically less engaged, lol.

It's nonsensical.

Nah.

I understand the conceptual idea, but at a moment's worth of thought, it's a bad solution. It ignores the economic model of Facebook, and the theory has significant classist effect. So like, it's a cute idea in theory, but practically it would be dumb to implement in the way you described it.

I think what it might boil down to is Musk thinking that the checkmark is for "clout" because that's what he thinks and he thinks everyone must think the same as he does. Therefore, it's something he think he can charge for and people will want it.

When really it's there so people know the person is who they say they are and not some fake troll account spreading shit.

So his whole scheme to make the checkmark buyable (and behind a paygate) both misunderstands the point of the checkmark for the vast majority of twitter users and will result in it losing whatever value it actually had to them by making it no longer fulfill that basic function.

I've actually read some halfway decent sounding ideas for how to implement changes to Twitter that might bring in some money but at the same time it's a bit difficult to believe Twitter didn't think of them themselves years ago.

You're absolutely correct but I'll add that he doesn't just believe it's for clout, he believes it's essentially a conspiracy to elevate "lies" over "the truth". It's all part of the right-wing chud worldview that he's bought into.

No one thinks its cool. people regularly just dunk on people for having the checkmark already, and that will only get worse when the checkmark is also a signifier that the person is dumb enough to spend $8 a month on a checkmark.

the right has weirdly been whining about "blue checks" for a while before this whole mess of a deal even started, just google "blue check meme" and check the image results, it'll mostly be about trolling liberal elites about Trump

it even continues in one of the many dumb memes Musk himself posted in the recent days, one where blue checks were NPCs angry with Musk for the change

... which is just... weird right? because now all the Muskrats are hyped put have their own checkmark and Musk is mocking his own system he wants to start selling?

What happened to the democrats...

PA is looking to go red now in the Senate as Fetterman spirals to a slow death.

Nevada is looking to go red.

Georgia is looking to go red.

New Hampshire is now in play to go red.

Arizona may not be as safe as once expected.

55-45 Red chances in senate on 538.

RCP has Republicans holding leads in NH, PA, Nevada, and GA. (Slight).

Generic Ballot is 3-4% in Republicans favor and that is never in their favor.

I know the usual midterm slaughter happens to presidents normally but this is a stunning turnaround from just a month ago.

Student debt relief ended up backfiring politically. Most affected were already dems. Those who already paid them off or didn't get relief were riled up against the dems, and Republicans affected stand ready to take the relief all the while acting like it's bullshit and they didn't want the relief.

If this trend continues for Republicans at this rate til the polls Tuesday, we might get the red tide.

That said, what is up with the complete lack of polls this election. Silver looks like he pivoted to not weight polls so strongly for dems like he did in previous elections so I suspect his forecasts will be more on the money now.

I told you all in 2016 the republican senator candidate I believe his name was Murphy or whatever would win despite being down like 3-4% in the polls. I told you Trump would take PA. I told you Biden would take PA in 2020. Based on what I am hearing and seeing. Fetterman is dead in the water after the debate. I expect Oz will take PA. I have heard almost not a peep about Oz and Fetterman before the debate. After the debate, I have seen so much about fettermans debate performance and support for Oz firing up all over social media and on the ground. While I expect things to sway red where I am, Westmoreland County is an indicator area for how elections will go along with Erie and a couple of other areas. A fetterman win would be an extreme surprise.

Corporations aren't people. If corporations make record profits the money ends up somewhere, and a lot of it went to minimum wage hikes when all the companies started hiking up minimums to 15 an hour at the beginning of the year.

Corporate profits are getting ready to plunge to losses due to fed increases. That is hardly going to help the average person. If the average person had even more money, supplies would be limited even more causing even more inflation. The shutdowns caused problems we haven't seen in a long time.

Focusing on corporate profits leads to taxes on corporate profits which leads to CEOs reducing profits in the easiest way possible which is often just paying themselves more money. Dumbest strawman there is

Now if only there was also a tax on how much those C suite people get paid, like we used to have... and a law against stock buybacks, like we used to have... would be pretty cool huh.

Democrat messaging, as always, is bad. The commercials that i saw in Wisconsin were literally just "this republican is TOO EXTREME, vote for NOT THEM." And obviously while that's true, it's presented in such a stupid and oblivious way that all it does is make your current supporters feel better.

we care about corporate profits because those are things not going to the working class of that company and because of price gouging that is going on to the working class when shopping.
