Silent Hill f. Just a CG teaser for now but it looks intriguing, seems like a Japanese setting.

My hope with Silent Hill 2 is that Bloober Team stick close enough to the original game to not mess it up. The trailer seemed quite good?

I wonder what ended up happening to that game set in the UK that had all the art leak. Outside of Bloober's remake that was the only project we had some legitimate reason to think was real!

That may be Townfall. It is a UK studio doing it.

OK well Silent Hill f is officially my most anticipated video game. Seeing some people worried about the dev but that's completely irrelevant with R07 on board. In fact I hope it's just a straight up VN.

I don't know anything about Higurashi other than what I've seen in memes, particularly blue haired girl who says "nipah", so i was waiting for it as Paul Allen's card and still busted out laughing anyways. Probably my fav meme template at the moment. Thanks for sharing!

I see that Lenart, director of The Medium, AKA one of the worst representations of mental health is video game history, is leading the SH2 remake.

So yeah. Unless you're just like "I want to play an SH2 with good combat", there's absolutely no have even reomoty good expectations for his piece of garbage. It WILL be bad.

I have similar thoughts about The Medium, but I am willing to at least see if they can clutch this one out. The presentation of The Medium was outstanding, and it's a gorgeously chilling game. But they aren't creating the story themselves--they have all of it there.

My hope is they have someone on Konami reining in any bullshit they may have with control of the story too.

Every cutscene and line of dialogue they showed in the trailer was lifted directly from OG Silent Hill 2. If they're going to FF7 Remake it, then they're hiding that very well.

Wow, I woke up to news that Ryukishi is writing the new SH game.

I feel like the things people hate about Bloober team won't be as prominent if they're doing a straight remake, they won't have a chance to editorialize as much

I don't think Bloober Team is a bad dev, they just struggle to make engaging gameplay in their games. Silent Hill 2's strongest points are definitely not in the gameplay department, so I don't feel particularly worried about them heading it up.

Are there release years for any of these?

My biggest worry: aesthetic and atmosphere. Something about the PS2 "rusty" aesthetic gives SH2 character, and I'm worried that modern HD graphics will normalize things too much.

Well yeah, but you can't really release a game exactly like Silent Hill 2 again. It's a product of its time and nostalgia as much as anything else. As much as I love the original VA and aesthetic, to a modern audience it would just come across as questionable quality.

I hope they remove the fog since games can have much longer draw distances now

Yeah the original SH2 was kind of a slog to play through (though I enjoyed it immensely for other reasons). How badly do y'all think Bloober Team could fuck it up, really?

Bloober could forego combat entirely which would be a huge mistake. Bloober has never had a full fledged combat system in their horror games, which was fine as they mostly didn't need it as they're fully psychological experiences - except for The Medium which played really boring without a combat system I think. The same thing would happen with SH2. You need combat because interacting and having to face the monsters and subsequently your own fears is essential in telling the story of SH2. I hope they look to the remake of RE2 for reference - the combat system feels simultaneously modern but never like you have all the power thanks to the erratic and unpredictable movement of the enemies. Something like that would be perfect for SH2.

Remakes are a completely different type of gamedev. It makes no sense to speculate based on their history. See Beenox games.

Im guessing early 2023 for SH2 based on system requirements already being listed. Townfall looks like late 2023, Ascension likely around then also. SHf is 2024 at the earliest. This is all just me speculating.
