I had $500 worth of stuff delivered to the wrong address/lost earlier this week, and no neighbor has brought it by.

Anyone have any experience with this? I already made a claim with the company who shipped it, but Im worried about the process.

Id 100% rather have the stuff than my money back, lol I got a good deal.

My OLED Switch was lost. I filed a claim with Target and they refunded me bc they couldnt send a new one due to the shortage at the time. I was trying to get a new one ordered from anywhere else it popped up but wasnt having luck.

Then the lost switch showed up on my doorstep a few days later. Not sure what happened. When I told Target they said just to keep it. P cool of them.

this does not help with your situation at all

i have had over $1000 of merch sent to me by mistake. i had ordered something and i received someone else's order in addition to mine.

i contacted them about it and they asked if i could mail it back. FedEx said that since the package had already been opened, i would have to repackage and pay for the shipping to go back to the intended address. i had to take time on an off day to do that after like two weeks. today i regret not telling them to just fuck off and say i'm keeping the stuff because they did give me that out earlier in the conversation.

all they did was reimburse me for the shipping cost.

Steam Deck. They immediately sent out a replacement when I contacted them even though it said delivered and this was back when there was long waiting lists (Feb/March ish).

When I was reselling shoes (boo hiss boo I know), there was one delivery company that would constantly steal packages and Nike always refunded instantly without question but sucked as the shoes were worth a lot more than what you paid. I have no idea how that delivery company (Lasership) stays in business as they are rated 1* for the area and their reviews are just a constant stream of packages going missing once they reach the Orlando warehouse.

Lost comics probably valued around 300-500 in the mail a few years ago. Just got my money back and never found out what happened to them.

Not myself, but a friend of mine had his specially made ultra-shiny mirrors lost for his PhD work which probably set his graduation back like a year (since they had to be remade)

No honestly this makes me feel much better. At the end of the day if I get a refund, I can always hope the stuff shows up later lol.

Didgeridoo that I shipped from Australia to my home in the US. About $300 US I believe.

I bought the insurance on it so I put in a claim and the company sent me a replacement. The company didn't care that much because the insurance company paid for it.

I used to work at Target. This is normal. My experience with that was just a $13 stuffed animal, where there hadn't been any delivery updates in a week (even though this was a post-Christmas clearance so there was New Years' to deal with). I just asked "what gives?" and got another sent. I now have two, and my store's GSTL said "Just keep them both, that's the standard procedure."

To answer the topic: No. It's only ever been inexpensive stuff. A more recent example was ice trays from Amazon, where it said it was delivered when it wasn't. Turns out their delivery driver had dumped it off at the wrong place, and the original turned up a week later. I now have 8 ice trays instead of the 4 that fit in my (rather small) freezer. Rotating 5 at a time.

I've lost a few smaller items when ordering from Amazon, or places with pretty excellent customer service, and I usually get another one sent immediately or am refunded right away.

I bought a relatively rare ($100ish) record via discogs from Portugal and the package was lost, even though it arrived as per tracking. At the time, there were several instances of package theft in my building, so I couldn't discard that being what happened. The seller tried to find out what happened, I asked neighbors, went to the post office, but I eventually just gave up and had to suck it up. I still wonder where that package is today, honestly. If it really was a thief, I doubt they knew the value of the record or could find a way to sell it. It's pretty niche.

Not that I can think of. Part of that is I try to order online as little as possible. There was the time the opposite happened - I ordered one replacement electronic shaver head and Amazon sent me three. I went through the process to return them via UPS. I didn't realize that I'd have to pay for packaging until they had packaged it up for me - I assumed that would be covered in the return policy. That was....really annoying and has soured me even more to ordering online (even though now I've learned to package things myself for things like this).

Ok so after waiting for 48 hours after delivery, the company went ahead and shipped a whole brand new order.

I wonder if they just eat that cost or if UPS covers the insurance or whatever.

Nothing outrageously expensive but one time I did order a book that disappeared in the mail. For what it's worth, the day that it was scheduled to arrive ended up... mostly by coincidence... being right in the middle of a hurricane that lasted several days. I presumed at first the postal worker just didn't come to deliver any mail because of the weather, so I waited a few extra days. When it never showed up, I finally called. They had another copy sent out and it arrived right away. The most crazy part about this story is that weeks later, my ORIGINAL copy of the book finally showed up. Whatever caused it to not get delivered the first time must have caused it to end up in some kind of shipping limbo and get lost for over a month.
