The Rings of Power Season 1 complete!

I'm glad The Stranger didn't turn out to be Sauron. That would've been a huge bummer, not to mention a little too obvious. My wife has been speculating all season that he was Gandalf, and it appears she may have been right.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I feel like a lot of the people down on this show feel that way because it compares unfavorably with House of the Dragon, but we don't have that problem...!

i think the show has enough of its own problems without being compared to hotd, which is having its own problems! i enjoyed the last few episodes a bit more, though it's stark how much better scenes with durin are than anyone else.

halbrand being sauron was cool and fiiiinally made hos existence feel justified

Oh, yeah, I never got around to writing my own LotR: Rings of Power beated post.

Halbrand's reveal while partially called by me after he was very sus that other episode was still really well done in his scenes with Galadriel IMO. Stranger was always a flip of the coin between Sauron and Gandalf IMO and it was kinda funny to have that stalker trio make the same mistake lol. That said, I think I'd prefer it if he was one of the other wizards for some reason I can't really explain but he's like 99.9% Gandalf so eh. I guess the drama, at least for Galadriel and Elrond, for Season 2 will be Elrond having figured out that Halbrand wasn't who he said he was and suspecting Galadriel of having fallen because she hasn't explained the situation to anyone which I'm not particularly looking forward to.

Still enjoyed the season though! Haven't watched House of the Dragon and am unsure if I will so no comparison issues for me.

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure what direction they're going to take the show for season 2.

I watched the "Werewolf by Night" Marvel special. That was a solid homage to old school monster movies. The direction and special effects were really well done.

Not sure if anyone is a fan of the Rocky franchise, but I grew up loving these movies (except Rocky V, which never happened) and the first two Creed movies were pretty good, too.

I liked the first two Creed movies a lot but I've only seen bits a pieces of the Rocky movies (mostly of IV). I've been meaning to watch the Rocky movies for quite sometime now but never got around to it.

I watched the first four with friends and we were gonna watch the fifth one but never got around to it. And that's also why I never continued!

Just skip the fifth one and go straight to Rocky Balboa imhotbqh

Wheel of Time book 11 beated! Just a solid book from start to finish, and it was nice to see some of these long-running storylines finally get resolved. I also appreciated the renewed focus on the important characters instead of giving so much time to minor characters like the last few books did.

That was an unexpected development. Also, I'm really liking Dedra as a character, and now I hope K2SO shows up at some point.

WoT book 11 is great. I absolutely love the battle in the middle of the book with Rand where Lews Therin takes over. Just feels insanely cool. Mat's story is basically similar to what he did in book 10 but better in every way, Perrin finally finishes his crappy plotline, Rand stuff is good in general, Egwene only gets two chapters but both are great, Elayne finally finishes her crappy plotline, etc. Feels better than the last few books in a lot of ways.

How do you feel about Tuon btw?

I should actually finish Wheel of Time at some point ever. Realistically I could start from book 11 but I know I'm going to forget everything but also if I start from the beginning I'm just going to get bogged down in the middle again and stop somewhere. Idk.

Speaking of things I should finish I will get back to Xenoblade 2...eventually. I've been way too busy with work the past few weeks but I'm hoping that should be over by next week.

I like her. She's a good foil for Mat. I was glad when they finally gave us a couple of chapters from her perspective this time.

Nice to have an easy homecoming win where Tennessee just gets to show off in the first half and get the backups some playing time in the second half.

Yup, she's entertaining, and I appreciate her perspective. It's fun to have a character who's kinda evil like that hanging out with a good guy, and their romance is pretty entertaining.

This Is Us Season 5 Episode 14 complete!

Well, the glut of new shows over the last couple months meant we didn't really get to watch any of this for a while, but we're back! Good episode here and a good use of "All My Life" by K-Ci and Jojo there at the end.

Welp, I think I'm now committed to pulling an all-nighter as a last ditch effort to fix my sleep schedule ahead of probably jury duty tomorrow... not ideal!

I've gotten summons for jury duty five times and have never been selected. One time it was because jury duty got canceled, once was because it was sent to my old address after I had moved away, and once was because they got all the jurors they needed before my group was called, but twice I was interviewed and refused.

I was summoned for jury selection last week, but it got cancelled before I had the chance to go. I would've been interested to try it, though.

This is the third time I've gotten a summons. The first two times I didn't need to go in, but now I guess they have 150 groups per week and you need to check before each day for that week. My group's in the 80s and there were no groups called for Monday so I thought over the weekend that the worst case scenario was that I got called in on Thursday/Friday, but then they literally called like 80 groups in for today so I think it's pretty much guaranteed I have to go in now.

And yeah I think actually being on a jury would be interesting, but getting there is potentially a huge pain depending on the courthouse and rapidly changing my sleep schedule is always really difficult for me (for the furthest out courthouses I'd probably need to be out the door around 6am, which is much closer to when I've been going to sleep recently than to when I've been waking up...)

Yeah the last time I got summoned was also like August 2020 or something. I was definitely worried about having to go in then. I'm just job searching now, so I don't think I have any excuses to get out of it! (Though once I'm there I'll have already dealt with most of the annoyance anyway, so I wouldn't mind being actually chosen too much as long as the trial's only a day or two)

Mine was delayed for unknown (to us) reasons so I go back Monday.

Yeah Im really glad I got out of it because I know from my dad who served on the jury in a child porn case that they make the jurors actually view the material (and there were child porn charges for this case too). Which I guess makes sense because otherwise the prosecutor isnt proving that it actually is cp, but yeah definitely dont want to have that invading my nightmares.

Yeah, one of the cases I got refused for was a sexual assault case, and I was pretty okay not getting picked for that one.

The design for the prison was top notch, and the Saw Guerrera cameo was cool. Hopefully that's not his only appearance in the show.

Made it to the final witch trial in Layton/Ace Attorney, so the end is in sight

Well, gacha has defeated me.

I just ruined my plans for all of 2023 in Fate/Grand Order over a Servant I didn't really care about all that much just because I was in disbelief about how the gacha could just be that uncooperative. Basically blew all the gacha currency I saved up over a year and just missed entirely so now I'm basically broke when 2023 has (or had now I guess) a bunch of Servants I did want and the whole point of saving was to have a warchest for it.

I mean I can pretend that this just instead happened on my first desired target for 2023 since the end result is close to the same but it didn't and so I'll always wonder.

That's tragic to hear although not super surprising since it is a gacha game. If nothing else, it's a memorable lesson in properly setting limits and how important it can be to stick to them. At least you cut your losses before it got to the point where you opened up your wallet.

Gacha wins again. Gacha always wins.
