While the shirt certainly implies trans masc, the character doesn't introduce themselves or give their pronouns. They don't even say they use it themselves. They could just be a guy who buys them for his sister or girlfriend. Or a teacher who keeps their classroom stocked for their students.

Head covered by a beanie, flat chested. Maybe she is a cancer victim who had a double mastectomy. And with any of these answers there is nothing wrong with them buying feminine hygiene products.

But there's another character right after them that is buying the product for their daughter. At first I though the character might be a woman undergoing chemo therapy. It's kind of vague what the intent of that character's design is and freaking out about it is a weak position to argue from.

I dont think its that vague. The stripes on characters shirt are the trans pride flag. I think that makes the intent pretty clear.

That reminds me of when I worked at a grocery store in the health and beauty aids dept. and pretty much every time I was packing out feminine hygiene products, thered always be some boomer who happened to be walking by and make some comment like oh I bet that makes you feel uncomfortable! Heh heh

I have never understood the purpose or use of flags and there are only a few that I can recognize what flag they are. I never would have made that connection.

Aside from the points made above, the character is likely meant to be a trans man, meaning he would have the biology to have periods.

Also, I understand your intended meaning in the bolded part, but someone that identifies as a woman is a female. Calling them a male in any capacity is invalidating to their identity. In this case, you could say a woman who was assigned male at birth.

I find no fault with this. I agree with everything stated here. The only reason we're discussing this is that @slacker03150 asked why people were freaking out and specified which people. Which in turn gave the indication why they were freaking out. So who cares that those people freaked out?

I understood things a lot better when Sex and Gender where synonyms. When it was okay to be a non-stereotypical representation of one of them without it making you the other one. But if using Male/Female to refer to biology and using Man/Woman to refer to how someone fits into society helps us to understand each other in discussing these things then let's be consistent about it. Personally I don't like it because I think that reinforces sterotypes and I thought as a society we had decided stereotypes were bad.

If that sounds like I'm ignorant or playing dumb so be it.
