That's the problem, some people saw it that way which I never understood why, I guess in the past this idea of being "loyal" to certain groups or even just members was more prevalent, I might have been guilty of it here and there myself, I mean I understand the idea but sometimes it goes too far. Youngji wasn't there to "replace" anybody, they needed one more member and she was the one chosen.

Um. Hype Boy just reached its peak again on Melon at #2. Four months after release. Above Antifragile, After Like and Nxde and, hell, even Attention.

As a serial chart watcher, I can say that's practically unheard of and is actually insane. Korea really loves Newjeans and really loves this song.

I don't know how you can follow up a debut like this to be honest, but I'm looking forward to their first comeback.

^Even more exciting for me is to see that Kara's When I Move is rapidly climbing the charts and about to crack the top 10.

Let all K-Pop companies learn from this. You don't have to abandon your girl groups the moment they all become women.

Kara. SNSD. This year they've shown the value of experienced idols being able to show why they became legends in the first place and release new music.

So tired of older groups getting abandoned and disbanded. K-Pop could benefit greatly from 3rd gen groups getting the same treatment, once they get a decade+ old (which is soon)

They're all still in the company, for now at least, so yes.

Though I never did see anything/anyone confirming that the 9 members actually filed injunctions to end their contracts

I can't imagine how the girls feel with so many saying they will boycott it.

If they truly do want out, they probably wouldnt care that much, but if the report wasn't actually true it must suck for them

But I've seen many kpop fandoms over the last 15 years swearing up and down that they would boycott certain releases for a whole variety of reasons and they basically never have the willpower to actually go through with it. Especially now-a-days, fandoms are too obsessed with numbers and making sure their favourite groups don't look like they're flopping or falling off to not dump all their money into every new release. I'll believe this boycott when I see it

Was checking out some of the KBS Gayo stages and man, as much as I like Aespa and am glad to see them finally coming out to some of these year end events, when you actually see them in a lineup with all these other groups it becomes really apparent that most of the newer 4th gen girl groups really dice them up in terms of performance.

Also feel kinda sorry for Kep1er, only got to do 1 song compared to their contemporaries doing mutiple songs, and got excluded from every collab stage despite the majority of them featuring 4th gen girl group members. Even in the one where they decided to put together the younger members of LE SSERAFIM, New Jeans, NMIXX, and IVE, the organizers decided to double up on one group to get to 5 members instead of adding a Kep1er member to it

Industry has progressed so fast. Aespa and Itzy are kinda their own dated sub-generation. They're not bad, but the trends just shifted.

As someone who thinks Hyori was of the more attractive standouts of their time, very fitting they pick Yuna for this. Not quite the singer though, but she has been improving.

details about loona's contracts came out through dispatch and shit is evil. 70:30 revenue split but a 50:50 expense split, which means a profitable project within a range would actually add to the members' debts - bbc can't fucking lose.

At work so I couldn't get too far into both sides, but the sound and tone they chose for a winter track as great.

Having a plot line that builds can be a double edged sword. I personally thought it just got ridiculous with BTS and Loona. On the other hand, I think what makes NewJeans develop so fast is that they didn't cater to having a cutesy stage or generally forcing some kind of pretty aesthetic (IVE, Twice) - which is one of my gripes with the industry. They know they don't need to sell that as an image, but just presenting the members and work in its natural attractiveness.

Kep1er left out again it seems, they seem to only get included in these collab stages with the other 2021/2022 rookies when MNet themselves are hosting the show.

Also really strange to throw a BP song in there when the other 3 are the classic 2nd gen groups, surely a 2NE1 song would fit the theme better or even like After School/Miss A/f(x)/etc...
