There is a bit of repetition with their singles, but I think they nail it almost every time and it doesn't come off lazy like BP.

There's also some apparent growth every time. Yuna has better vocal control, Lia dances sharper, etc.

like, you can still have them shout if you must, but hold off on the parts that actively grate and fuck off with all that sing-talking when they can actually sing and rap.

Not out to just roast groups, but MLD entertainment runs Momoland into obscurity, fails to really bring them back, and therefore was due to introduce a new group, and this is the result.

This is miles better than the original single, but it feels like a late bootleg of other songs. Similar to Momoland, seems like the member talent isn't the issue.

Sorry this may be harsh but Nmixx just confuses me, what a waste of good talent because yeah, it's not that they sound bad, it's just the songs are a hot mess.

I've yet to give Lapillus a serious listen, nice sound actually even if not my cuppa, I thought Hit Ya was fun, but yeah the bells of girl crush are (thankfully and finally!) tolling. Good to see Shana on stage.

Pretty bold for a JP release, but yeah that's their sound. Hard agree, as I've said, to this very day I've yet to make a single real complaint against Itzy. Maybe they're not the most exciting of groups but they're always rock solid and somehow they've managed to stay pretty fresh. Also they're one of the most fun groups to watch outside the stage which counts for a lot for fans like me.

Lesserafim comeback next month?

Saw a bit of their documentary. Can't really say I'm ever into that kind of stuff, but I was wondering if how they'd get around the whole Garam thing.
Strong production value, but in the face of NewJeans, there's higher expectation for it to translate into something really good.

It's funny how they went so out of their way to completely erase her from the history of the group. No 15 year reunion with this one!

itzy and nmixx are like opposites for me, in that i just fundamentally don't enjoy the vocals in itzy so unless they're getting songs as good as wannabe i'm all the way out. meanwhile, i tried on several occasions to get into o.o and occasionally those attempts made it past 30 seconds.

This MooMoo is excited, because they don't promote as a group half as much as they did during their peak activity years.

My expectations are high, because after 8+ years, I still don't feel like there is any group in K-Pop, particularly among the girls, who bring such a unique package to the table like MAMAMOO.

Dis is true. There are hardly any groups I feel confident in dishing out a performance as authentic as Moo. No second guessing if they can hit the same notes they did in the studio. Most of the industry pales in recruiting and training vocal talent like them.

I think this is actually a difficult, complicated question. IGAB was a pretty different song for its time, a time when (girls) Kpop used to be very formulaic and followed certain styles closely, with few songs one would call "experimental" like IGAB (I think even by today's standards it's still pretty off beat). At this point we'd have to go through a whole review of how Kpop evolved since then... almost ten years ago now. To a large extent groups just do things differently nowadays.

Sparing that, if I have to pick a group that most closely followed what ironically became the traditional girl group sound (but also developed and gave its own twist for sure), again if there's even such a thing now, it would be Twice. But there are many possible worthy mentions, even here. Actually Mamamoo is another very nice example, still classic pop music but with their own signature style. Mamamoo's style has always been fundamentally different though, more soulful, jazzier than regular, sugary, girl group pop. Which carries a bit of IGAB. Again this all goes to show that all girl groups since IGAB have changed in essential ways (and of course it wasn't just IGAB that did it, but it's one of the most prominent examples because of GG), all of them carrying something of that spirit, which was very influential if for no other reason than being different, but then nothing is that much like IGAB specifically because by design everyone tries to do their own thing now.

The structure of verses was cool to have them showcase something different vocally. Glad they didn't ride that hook too much like other groups. Yunjin is pretty consistent and iirc Kazuha has the least industry training, but she's taking on a lot of line distribution regularly.

Seems like they helped Sakura fit in more lines by giving her shorter notes.

Eunchae seems like she got played out of the distribution unless there was some kind of visual/vocal mismatch.

I was bad with the first watch, not used to that bangs cut she switched too.
And I believe the bridge is a bit misleading. Overall this was surprisingly even distribution. Just her and Kura aren't getting verses

I think when considering the period of time for the producers to create the track, and the girls to figure it out, and how it's not of a typical style for them to cover it's a crazy piece of work put together imo, just like their last album.

I think Hybe is doing a real solid with adapting more western style and it's already branching out of the current gen of the industry. Bilingual and international talents (as performers and production) are becoming the new norm in driving how a track sounds and how it performs.

I'm not sure Lesserfim or NewJeans will be it, but I think Hybe recognizes BTS has become a stepping stone in western adaptation and is probably going to get a future project to properly integrate into other mainstreams. BTS only made headway because of existing popularity. Not to be a hater, but "Dynamite", "Butter", PTD are just token tracks imo. They are still a "boyband from Korea".

First listen I still like Fearless slightly better, but that's also one of my most listened to albums this year so I'm still a big fan of Antifragile.

Seems like the melody and such was structured to help, but end product makes an interesting impression of what they'd sound like actually speaking English.

To me I usually take an English track like it's a forced thing, and the artist is just making their way through the lyrics vs. actually trying to articulate them.

Ten imo has been the most talented member in NCT. He wasn't a fit with 127's...odd direction, and imo WayV has the best sound out of all the subunits, but the marketing didn't yield the results SM hoped for, as well as the Lucas thing.

Supposedly there's going to be another subunit or two, and i wouldn't be surprised if they added him to at least one.

Just wanted to say that 'Acid Angel from Asia' is amazing. Love the song, MV, and name.

What's incredible about the music video is that its a low budget production done right. It really feels authentic and captures the fleeting days of youth perfectly.

I went to the first concert date in Houston and had a great time. And from my observations, most of the people who actually went to their concert had a similar experience.

There has been a lot of negativity spewed by people who haven't even gone to a single concert, fueled by cherry picked 5 second clips of the members not being 100% synced for some random choreo.

It's sad to see really. I'm the last person to defend BLACKPINK, given I've had my own clashes with Blinks historically, but the concert was high energy, fast paced and explosive.

I don't regret spending the money.
