IIRC there's something about Japan where only a medical examiner or something can officially pronounce someone dead so until that happens they often use euphemisms that basically amount to the same thing.

There's been at least one political assassination in Japan every decade. The world's no shittier than it was in the past.

Before you say the world is going to shit, it's probably important to note that from the statistics I've been able to find, this is Japan's FIRST gun-related homicide of 2022

If America actually cared about people's lives, it would learn from Japan's strict gun laws and maybe we wouldn't have shootings happening just about every day. America has become a laughingstock with regards to gun violence and there's something seriously wrong when the question is "Is there a gun shooting today?" vs "There's a shooting today...?" It's really fucked up we have to live in fear and think twice about going into crowds or even just driving on the highway

There have been unnecessary wars and stupid shit happening in the US every decade too... Like, Covid notwithstanding, the 1990s had a lot more heinous shit going on than the last 20 years.

So the assassin told police he did it because he hates a religious group that he believes Abe was connected to

they haven't publicly said what group, but many people currently believe it to be the Unification Church (aka the Moonies). Abe's Liberal Democratic Party is considered an ally to the church (like the conservative party of many countries are, including the US, to some degree) and Abe spoke at a big event they held last year (the same one Trump delivered an address to)

It's interesting how many people are pretty uneducated on just how much of a POS Abe was. He has numerous times in the past tried to defend his war criminal grandfather from criticism of being a war criminal.

Sins of the father and all that, his grandpa taking part in war crimes in WW2 shouldn't reflect on him, but his outright denial of proven historical facts puts him on the same level as holocaust deniers.

Not only did he say there wasn't proof that comfort women were unwilling, he proudly visited a shrine to verified war criminals that Japan's own emperor said he would never visit, and he did a photo op on a plane marked with 731.
