Ursaring 4
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/9/5/AASP7CAADczL.jpg

This is one of those ones where it's a scripted event so everyone is taking a picture of the same thing, but there's still a wide range of scores due to differences in taking the picture (10th place on Cyberscore is 5247). Basically you make Magikarp jump so it hits Ursaring in the face. You can have variation in the angle that you're facing them, how zoomed in you are, the exact point in the collision when you take it, and how you frame the two of them to make them both fit.

Idle pose, and since you can't get any background on this shot, taking it in front of other Pokemon is the next best thing. Not much to say about it actually; I was gonna mention the tidbit about Glaceon being really lenient on size, but this picture is pretty close up so you can't tell anyway. Here's a random example of Glaceon being farther away and still getting max size:

Okay, let's talk Mightyena 4.
Now here's a shot that definitely wouldn't have been expected by early players of the game. I remember that this was one of those "struggle for 4k" shots when people were taking the one on the far hill in the first section of Snowfields Night. Then a month in, a version was found at the bottom of the hill. It looked like this:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/4/9/AASP7CAADdcp.jpg

That could get a mid/high 4k which was considered a massive improvement. I think it was another few months before the modern version came out, or at least until people were able to put the pieces together for the previously known interaction:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/5/0/AASP7CAADdcq.jpg

After the secret cave section in Snowfields day, there's a pack of Mightyena very far away. You have to do some really long distance apple throws to be able to lure them close to the area that you pass. At some point, the leader of the pack will howl, and then the rest of the pack will howl in response. The reason why it took so long to find the strat is, you need to shoot one of the other ones howling, and include the leader in the shot for synergy, but the synergy does not work the other way around (as in, photographing the leader, or photographing a different one but not including the leader, will not give you the giant bonus).

This is one of those shots that has a several hundred point difference at the top of the leaderboard due to the difficulty of setting it up. Getting a 5.2k or even 5.1k would be above average and at this point would still be enough for top 10. The record shot is completely insane for being able to lure that many of the others together, accounting for nearly 200 extra points over just the one required one.

I counted a few days ago and I think there were 14 6k shots by Pokemon that weren't Illumina or legendary (by 12 different Pokemon...).
Just a personal note because I feel like sharing this. I've been working on some of these this week and I believe that I'm now the player who has achieved the most of these, with 12/14 in my collection (the next person has 11/14). There's one more that I'm gonna try to see how hard it is.

I'll post more updates for the topic soon.

Gengar 4 star plz
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/9/5/AASP7CAADejr.jpg

This one has a decent backstory to it. The record shown here with Gengar in the ceiling was actually the original high score strat that people used to use. At some point in time (last year), it changed to this:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/9/6/AASP7CAADejs.jpg

This shot in the wall was closer and had better direction, so it was deemed better, and everyone pretty much switched to this composition when doing score attempts. However, it was also a lot harder. You had to time it so Crobat's wing was flapping into the picture for synergy, and surely most of you know how quick of a Pokemon Crobat is. If you miss the wing, say goodbye to your 260+ bonus points, and zooming out to get more of Crobat's body wasn't worth the loss of Gengar's main stats.

Then a month and a half ago in early June, someone came back with a 5170 at the ceiling spot (a new record at the time). You know what changed about it? Absolutely nothing. He just took a better shot. It seems that people had abandoned the ceiling shot before it was fully optimized, so they never tried pushing it once the wall shot was found. And here we are with the ceiling shot back on top. There's definitely a lesson to be taken from this. At least 2 more people have taken top-10 worthy shots at the ceiling spot in the time since it came back (including the newer record 5176).

Scorbunny 4*?
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/7/2/AASP7CAADek4.jpg

Like most shots taken at this bloom, this one looks like a big clusterfuck. Let's look at what it is at its core:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/7/3/AASP7CAADek5.jpg

Scorbunny is rolling on the ground laughing, and Pichu jumps up and down. You can use synergy placement to aim at the space between them. It's taken from in front of the bloom in order to get the points from that as well, and the Pokemon are small enough that they can fit in half the screen and maintain their size.

So now comparing it to the record shot... It's angled in such a way that Shaymin is also visible (it also jumps up and down). He managed to lure in 2 Comfeys as well. This probably complicates the targeting, as you would have to lock on to Scorbunny and then carefully move your cursor to the left without targeting Comfey. Comfey itself has weird hitboxes due to its shape and the empty space in its center, so I don't know if this makes the situation easier or harder. I have no idea how much higher this can go. Is it possible to fix the placement without losing Shaymin? Is there anything else in the area to lure in, and if so, is there even room for it? Who knows what this will look like in a year or two.

Delibird 4 Star
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/9/1/AASP7CAADelL.jpg

This shot taken in most parts of the cave is a pretty simple 4950 (post is a static 950 for the whole animation, and Delibird turns to you so direction is easy). By taking it in such a way that the bloom is visible, you can break this cap even with subpar stats. My PB has 1883 size and 130 background for a 4963 total. This trades simplicity for points since you're reducing the amount of viable locations to take the shot. I actually never thought about how good this record is compared to second place (5192, 2-way tie). They didn't just get a sliver of Vanilluxe on the edge, they got the entire Vanilluxe + Jynx interaction, with good poses and sizes to really squeeze out the bonus points.

Hmm, I should go back and at least get 5000 on this.

Luvdisc 4
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/6/5/AASP7CAADemV.jpg

The interaction is pretty straightforward on a casual level but there's still some tech to improve the score. What happens normally is that you orb the bloom to make the 4 Luvdisc circle around it, and then play melody to make them flip on their sides to make a 4 leaf clover shape. The problem score-wise is that they're pretty far away, and they have bad direction due to being on their sides (traditional "side direction" scoring requires them to be upright while facing the side).

The first thing you do is take the pic mid-flip. After they hear the music, the pose scoring goes: 200 (barely moved) -> 4xx (around 45 rotated) -> 7xx -> 9xx (lying on their side), all really quickly. You'd think that 900 is the best, but that kills the direction, so what you actually want is 700, for the best compromise between pose and direction. Getting a high 400 gives even better direction so it's not a complete waste if you're too early, but optimally you want the earliest possible 700 frame. It takes a lot of trial and error since the entire flipping process occurs in less than a second.

The other trick is bonking the Luvdisc in front before you start so it swims away from the rest of the group, then bonk it a second time to stall it in place while the other 3 do their thing. The trigger for 4 stars is something like "Luvdisc doing this action in this position with the other 3 Luvdisc visible", so it doesn't actually matter that the 4th one isn't doing the thing as long as it's in the shot. Since you're forcing this Luvdisc to be facing sideways, it gives more size/direction and thus more bonus points than it would flipping next to the bloom (especially since this one would be viewed from the thin side).

Interestingly this record shot doesn't actually have the side one in its "getting hit by apple" animation, which is a higher pose value that nearly every other top shot has. The Other Pokemon score should be in the high 600 range. That may indicate more potential for this shot, but it's very frustrating to do repeated attempts on it.

I didn't even remember what this shot was before I looked it up, and wow, it's boring. You bonk a Crobat hanging on the ceiling and take it while it's disturbed. Apparently there are two different viable spots for this shot, and this one has some other Pokemon visible (allegedly), which pushes it slightly over the other one despite the lower direction.

Stunfisk 1
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/2/9/AASP7CAADe-x.jpg

Hell yeah, I get to claim full credit for this one. There's an interaction (not that well known?) where you can get the 2 Stunfisk from the middle section with Machamp and Octillery to go to the end section. You have to startle them by basically running them over, and what they do is go under a little gap in the rocks to the other side and make their way towards the other Stunfisk right before the end of the level. This was already used by high scorers for the 2 star pic, where we get them to start moving on their path and then lure them towards the shovel, which is a background element. The quirk comes from the way they move. Since Stunfisk doesn't have legs, it slides across the sand. Some people have voiced opinion that this looks glitchy, but I think that that's how some flatfish actually move (although I've never looked).

So one time I happened to notice a Stunfisk doing its idle animation while it was moving. Apparently since they didn't need to animate Stunfisk for this (no limbs), it counts as being in a neutral state and they literally just made the model move without flagging it as "walking" or whatever. I started theorizing about getting the idle animation in front of the shovel while it was moving. I didn't feel like actually trying it since it seemed tedious, so I just posted about it and tried to get other people to try it instead, which no one did. Some number of months later I finally decided that I was gonna prove it possible myself. It ended up not being as hard as I thought. Once Stunfisk gets to the other side of the rocks, you have to lure it closer to the beach. Stunfisk always takes a perfectly straight line from its current position to its preset ending spot. So you just have to bring it to a spot where its line passes the shovel. There's still luck involved with getting it to idle but thankfully it seems to be excessively common with this Pokemon. I actually had a few attempts where Stunfisk completely ran over the shovel and blocked some of the background points, but after a few tries I managed to set a new record of 4931 with my personal strat (an improvement of nearly 100). A few people managed to improve it since then (pic above is not mine), but this will always be one of "my shots".

I got you. There are a few others with bad direction score but I'm pretty sure this one takes the cake.

Furret 4https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/7/9/AARhE1AADe_j.jpg
That Furret on the left has simply been lured into the shot for more extra, though it wouldn't at all surprise me if this game is programmed to simply register "Furret" as the target for synergy and is therefore giving a boatload of extra points by having the one that isn't actually part of the interaction get the multiplier. But this is a shot of the interaction of the one in the middle, who is largely facing away, and the one on the right, whose body is still halfway submerged in a hole and therefore can't get very good size at all. The 2283 Size+Direction is, in fact, better than what the other one can do, so taking this shot with under 300 direction (the other ones I thought might contend with it turned out to have directions a tad above 400) is truly the best you can do.

Bewear 1
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/3/6/AASP7CAADfM8.jpg

This is yet another shot that got rerouted to a different area last month (you may notice a recurring theme that this game is very much still alive). The old one was in front of a different bloom earlier. Now it's in front of a bloom and ancient ruins at the end of the course, and can get higher Other too. Celebi is a legendary Pokemon so it's naturally worth more than regular Pokemon, and you get 3 available. I'm not exactly sure which Bewear this is since there are a bunch of them, but at least 6 people have completed this shot so far, so that tells me that the luring probably isn't too bad, even with the idle pose.

Somebody has a PB where they got Serperior fully visible and pretty close up in that space next to Bewear on the left and got 236 Other, compared to the record's 176. Unfortunately the shot was taken at a bad angle (or Bewear was standing in the wrong spot) so he didn't get any ruins background points, only 225 from the bloom alone. That shows some more potential room for optimization even on shots that look like they have nearly perfect main stats.
