Chika has some pretty funny episodes, particularly when teaching shirogane something or being a menace in general. Kaguya feels like an almost entirely different character in the current season, although she's still one of the weaker characters IMO. Hayasaka and Ishigami end up being the best for me. It's always great when they are involved. And Maki really grew on me in the last few episodes. Iino is probably my least favorite character, but shes gotten a fair bit better and is at least used for good comedic effect.

That is one manga that I never managed to complete. I picked up a volume here, a volume there, but a complete set was never possible. I do still have the DVDs, though. Rare to see Kare Kano mentioned, these days.

And I have no idea what the different "types" of anime are, at least in terms of this conversation.

kare kano is an anime i'll admit that is one of the best anime i just cannot get into because of how plodding the pace feels

i loved what i watched and the main character was s+ tier, but..

also had never heard of the types thing, and it might be a niche thing, but it's a useful framework for the purposes of that video at least

It was in response to the video posted. The person broke down (poorly) romance anime into 3 types. Type 1 being pure innocent romance (basically all shoujo), type 2 being rom coms, and type 3 being ecchi romance.

Bookworm ending marks the beginning of the end of this season. They hit us with the mixed messages at the end. First we get a "the story told is over" end card, but then we get a post credits scene with another end card that says "to be continued". Wtf, which one is it? I still feel like everyone is a little too unthinking about Myne's power level. Like, if they teach her magic, which they are going to do, she could just kill everybody. Hell she probably already can. If the people in charge had any brains, they'd be restricting her access to anything that could make her more powerful or independent.

It's probably referencing the end of the current arc and how the light novel has different subtitles depending on the current arc. Like the fourth volume is "Part 2 Apprentice Shrine Maiden Vol.1".

I haven't actually caught up on the anime but I'm assuming they stopped at the end of part 2 with the pace they were going at.

On the 6th episode of Cuckoo and yea, this show has gotten a LOT better.
I really hope that Nagi ends up with Hiro, but is that even possible? I don't know a lot about Shinto Shrines.

The rule (first girl shown wins) states he ends up with the switched at birth girl. Very few romance anime violate the rule. Although I guess if Sachi becomes an actual target I think she was shown first technically, but I feel like it won't count due to being a sister and thus having to be shown at home.

From reading comments, they did end it there, and thats the best guess I can have, but it's still a poor move IMO. Clearly a lot of people in comments took that to mean this was the final season and there won't be anymore so they are only shooting themselves in the foot.

Okay, caught up on Cuckoos. So current season update:
Nijigasaki S2: Haven't seen the latest episode because of subtitle error. Waiting for it to be fixed. Good thing there wasn't a new single and it seemed like a bonding episode.
Heroines Run the Show: All caught up!
Cuckoos: All caught up (Although episode 8 isn't as good as recent episodes).
Aharen-san: Need to catch up (finished Episode 4)
Deaimon: Need to catch up (finished Episode 3), also a few chapters behind on the manga.
Komi-san S2: Still doesn't exist. What the hell is going on?
Wage Slave-san: Need to catch up on this (finished Episode 5)
Don't Hurt Me, My Healer: It's a gag anime, will try and fit it in if I get the chance (finished Episode 3)
Birdie Wing: I only picked this up because I was bored. Will probably drop it.

Probably wasn't a good idea to suddenly pick up Runescape AND watch 10 anime in a season. At least next season will be pretty empty for me. Current plans are to watch:
Love Live Superstar S2 (Absolute must watch)
Shogi-senpai (Also an absolute must watch)
Kanojo S2 (Same thing here)
Teppen!!! (Seems interesting, may skim the manga in some free cycles during a Red Sox game or something.)

Yay, Honzuki. Just in time, finished Oresuki + ova today, so I'm in need of something to watch. Don't think I'll do a rewatch of the first two seasons.

I'm caught up on everything I'm watching this season except the previous episode of love is war. Only 2 episodes left in ichigo 100% as well and honestly it's kind of grown on me. Gotta give props to nishino for being the only harem character I can think of that was just like, I'ma head out, once she realized main guy liked more girls, without like getting super mad at him or anything. Still a pretty garbage show.

Alright, I finished up that show and hit a few anime watching milestones, at least on MAL, I probably missed a few series when looking back recently. Yesterday with bookworm I completed my 500th series and today with ichigo 100% I've now seen at least 1 anime from every season this century. I wonder how many shows I'd have left to watch one from every season that I've been alive for? Also just ticked over 11,000 episodes a few weeks ago. 186.0 days of anime, which is about 6 days per year.

Binged the akagi drama, shit got me back into mahjong soul. Why no season 2 or 3 on crunchy tho I wanna see how the washizu games end :(

Honzuki was a nice watch and I hope we get more. Honzuki, despite having tense moments, is a pretty relaxing watch. Not sure what I'm watching next.

Been focusing on the Fate/Grand Order story for a while since I wanted to do the BB event when it pops up one last time. Part 1 is finally completed. Credits are rolling. Whoo.

Now there are events I won't miss just because I didn't finish Part 1. Only got a few welfare servants during two years of playtime because of that.

Anybody know if any of the abridged anime series are decent besides Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ? Just curious.

SAO abridged is the best one IMO. Significantly better than actual SAO. Takes an episode or 2 before they start to hit their stride though.

Enough time to watch 1-2 episodes of Corporate Slave-san tonight.

I haven't watched it but I kinda wondered the same thing.

Also ya boy kongming is over now. Good finale and good show in general. I thought the gimmick would wear off, and I guess it did slightly, but they managed to build up characters and conflicts while the gimmick was still fresh so it worked out well.

It also just kinda dawned on me how much japanese music throws in english words. A lot of these songs are like 30% english even if there probably isn't a complete english sentence in the whole thing. It makes me wonder what that'd be like in reverse, to hear english singers just throw in a bunch of japanese phrases in every line. I guess Calli's music does that but it's also rap so I feel like it's kinda different.

Tomorrow aharen ends and then next weak most shows end. Sad to see it go. I should see when the next season actually beings. I assume around the 1st of next month.

Looks like anichart says most new shows are starting 2-3 weeks from now.

Yeah, there's often a crapton of random English words/phrases.

Actually I've been listening to a lot of music from bilingual artists, that blend in both English and Japanese in equal measure almost seamlessly.

I should probably look into Avril some more since I did like her in the early 2000's.

Man, summertime render is interesting. I feel like I can't truly call it good until the mysteries are resolved satisfactorily, but I am so damn curious about so much. The setup is fantastic. I wish I could binge the whole series, but theres at least something to be gained from having time to think between each episode. Still love the OP as well.

Only tommy heavenly6 song I know is pray, which might as well be an early 2000s song... well it came out in 2006.
I guess I know Paper Moon too.

If you're interested, I'd highly recommend the album "I Kill My Heart." Every track on it is gold.

Dang, two more anime ended today.

Executioner was pretty good, but it lacked anything to really blow me away. Everything was either just good or ok. Like a solid 7-8/10. Cool concept and world. I was glad to see the rating shot up at the end. There's a lot of mysteries I'd like to see unraveled but I'll be surprised if it gets a season 2. Then again, sometimes awful shows get season 2s so who knows.

Aharen-san was one of my most pleasant surprises this season. I thought it'd be kind of knock off komi that I already didn't like, but it ended up being so much better for me. Raidou's overreactions are hilarious and his willingness to support aharen in the stuff he thinks up is super heartwarming. Plus the show has some yuri hidden in there with the teachers and also oshiro. Nothing came of the yuri yet, but it's still nice. I'm fairly hopeful about it getting a second season. To my knowledge theres plenty of source material for it and I think it's been received fairly well.

I did check and the new anime season starts on the 2nd so still about 2 weeks to go. I hope it has as many pleasant surprises as this season but I highly doubt it.

I was just thinking that I forgot Strawberry 100% got animated. I remember stocking the manga ages ago. Always wrapped in plastic, though tamer than, say, Sundome.

Speaking of manga, I am circling the next few volumes of Trinity Seven, but I am holding off on a full read until Vol. 26 comes out in August.

I finally watched Belle...

It wasnt as good as wanted it to be. Felt kinda rushed and all over the place at times.

U is definitely the best song, already stuck in my head. Gale of Song was cool too. The other songs are ok.

Most the stuff from my COVID booster-induced buying spree has involved -- just not the Hasbro stuff (which is only relevant to this topic for the Transformers merch... although TF has kinda become a western franchise).

Out of everything, I was most pleasantly surprised by the Banpresto Rui, which -- like most of it -- was an impulse purchase. I think the spider family was the only arc in Demon Slayer I actually enjoyed (and then my interest just petered out during the hidden sword village shit).

The Pop-Up Parade DMG and Moroha is still just sitting in a box. Not sure where I want to put them. Out of everything, the DMG was the only thing I'd planned on getting before my head got loopy. (Can't remember if the Sentai Works sale stuff was bought before or after that.)

I'm current. Each season of an anime is like 4 hours (20 min x 12). If you watch even 10 shows, thats only 40 hours over the course of 3 months. That's about half an hour per day.

Finished trapped in an otome game. It was one of the more pleasant surprises. The show is trash, but it's good trash thats still fun to watch. The ultimate guilty pleasure show for this season. Hope it gets a season 2.

All still have at least 1 episode left. AotS is going to be obvious Nijigasaki S2. Biggest disappointment is Komi-san S2 for not having a release period. I don't know what happened there.

Cuckoos (9/12?)

This show is 2 cour so nowhere near ending.

I watched the 11 episodes of birdie wing out today. Was more enjoyable than I expected. Has a good level of serious to ridiculous. My mind was blown in I think episode 8 when rose's arm fucking exploded and it turned out it was a cyborb arm the whole time.

Also kinda funny that they talk so much about how insanely strong their drives are but when I looked it up, it's like half the world record drives. Honestly impressed an anime this over the top held back so much in that regard.

Not sure what I want to watch now. Just trying to distract myself from the anticipation of monster hunter sunbreak coming out in 10 days.

Finished off 2 more shows.

Quit hero was a mediocre show with a nice twist near the end. The ending was expected and ok I guess. I kind of hope it doesn't get a season 2 because all the characters finished their arcs and theres really nothing that should stand in their way.

Tomodachi game I did manage to finish. I got complaints about pretty much everything but it's whatever. The last episode was a really random pointless thing that feels like a weak place to end the season.

This season is really coming to a close now. I've still got about half the things left but skeleton knight ends thursday, love is war ends friday, spyxfamily ends saturday. Might have to watch a few more finished shows next week to fill the time before monster hunter.

In stupid gacha luck, I wanted the 4 star Passionlip from the current Fate/Grand Order event. I instead come away with both 5 star servants instead and no 4 star.
