Trump said he didn't want to come back. And I know Trump says a lot of things, but even if Trump secretly doesn't mean this, if Elon thinks he means it he'll stay banned.

Considering he has his own platform now and he is incapable of admitting failure, I can't see him going back to Twitter in the near future.

He'll be unbanned. Even if he doesn't come back, the account will be unbanned.

Elon literally launched into this whole "Twitter cracking down on free speech!!" campaign in earnest in direct response to Trump's ban. He got very vocal about bans like that being wrong. This whole buyout has been one giant $44 billion dollar excuse to unban trump. The account's getting unbanned.

And who are you kidding, Trump will come back. The man can't help himself. And his first tweet will be that he never said he wouldn't come back, and that will apparently make it reality for millions.

I don't think it is. I think Egon is just living in the hype so he can flip Twitter while it's high. Someone new will own Twitter by 2024 I bet.

People are speculating that he will roll up, hype up the stock, and then sell it and potentially crash the company.
People are also speculating that it's to ban everyone he doesn't like :(

Except his alleged plan for the company is to take it private, which would mean no stock to hype up. He would legitimately need to take a non-profitable company and make it profitable and then find someone that was willing to buy it.

You can't just "make" your own Pouter. but Tumblr was the original socially progressive platform. If you're scared of the Muskening, now might be the time to "go back to your own country" so to speak.

And something is happening as far as a flight to/from Twitter. Mark Hamill and Keith Olbermann, among other lefty voices, suddenly lost thousands of followers. Just suddenly dropped. It was suspicious enough for them both to Tweet about it. Meanwhile, righty voices like Catturd are gaining thousands of followers.

I don't think Musk is the vengeance of all the banned socially conservative voices who were silenced. But enough people fear that he might be.

But we very much live in a post-MySpace world. Maybe we're nearing the post-Twitter world. Maybe forums are back. Maybe the re-diversification of the Internet is dawning and not everything will revolve around the same handful of big websites.

Nah Twitter is too popular to ever shut down. The only reason MySpace stopped being used was because Facebook was vastly superior.

It's valid speculation though.

So far, everything Elon has said he would do with Twitter he has done, so it makes sense to think he will make the company private since he now has the power to do that.

Actually, Twitter employees should be happy about that, since privately held companies tend to treat their employees better then publicly traded ones. Although who knows, that is wild speculation at this point...

The comic seems to be about how Tycho doesn't understand what the difference would be if Elon Musk bought Twitter. He doesn't understand. If he knew anything, at the very least he'd know what people think will happen. This comic isn't that. This is him saying "I don't know the damn Twitter, if it's so bad why don't you just leave?"

Whatever you think is so bad about Twitter, other people like and need. "Twitter bad" isn't a new or insightful take. We all get annoyed by Twitter sometimes. But you know that a lot of people stand to lose a lot of connection if Twitter goes down.

Not really, they will just migrate somewhere else.

IRC, AIM, MySpace, Facebook, all stuff that connected people back in the day, all stuff that people moved off of and picked different platforms. Twitter is no different.

When people say "Twitter bad" we understand it is not Twitter's fault, it is just humanity in general. Give people a platform where they don't have the ability to read their audience and cast the widest net possible and it is just going to bring out the worst in people. Twitter is just the biggest example of that currently.
