Where was this argument 25 years ago?

"That was then, things change."

Yeah, I was alive back then and I remember the political people back then. They were more successful, capable, learned, and better spoken than the people now.

I'd rather listen to them. It's straight up looking Lord of The Flies now and you guys seem to be on Jack's side. I'll stay with Ralph. I'd rather be civilized.

What could he possibly do that would make Twitter worse?

allow the racists and pedophiles back into Twitter

which, if he does actually buy it and become some champion of free speech on it, that's literally what'll happen, and then it'll just be a sequel to parlor lmao

and if he doesn't do that, then nothing will have changed except a lot of people suddenly heel turn and now hate him

Elon isn't going to do shit to Twitter if he does buy it, specifically because any changes people want him to do would kill it.

It's a ridiculous waste of money by a guy who has more money than anyone should ever have and can therefore waste it with reckless abandon. It's nothing more than a vanity project. If he were actually interested in doing good with that money, he could single-handedly house every single homeless person in the country for 2-3 years, which is a much, much bigger deal than unbanning a couple Nazis from Twitter.

I don't think anything can salvage Twitter at this point, but considering the platform's heavily-biased, politically motivated censorship practices, Musk would probably be an improvement. He'd also take a stronger stand against the far-left government elements who had been trying to push Twitter into promoting the Democratic Party's agenda.

Adam_Savage posted...

The racists and pedos not only didn't leave, but they were protected. You regularly have people calling for genocide on Twitter -- including terrorist groups like Hamas -- and Hollywood celebs talking about their desire for children. Which, by the way, is the result of the censorship being purely politically motivated rather than content motivated.

Because to people like Helly who back strongarm politics, they see any speech that contradicts their positions as a bad thing because their politics can't stand up to scrutiny.

That's not the purpose of democracy. The people don't have to be anything, the decision is given to the people so they don't feel disenfranchised so if things don't go well, they don't rebel and make the bad times last a few decades instead.

Meritocracy is for theoretically getting the best government possible, but that is vulnerable to the stupid masses feeling oppressed by the capable telling them not to do dumb shit. Civil war is a very undesirable outcome, and civil wars are fought by the general public, not the most educated.

It's impossible, like his hyperloop, space elevator, re-usable rockets, mars colonization, personal robot assistants, electric trucks, solar roof tiles, and like any other idea he's had can be easily explained away by any professional scientist/engineer/doctor/businessman in ten minutes.

The details of why are technical and keep it out of reach of your average musk fan, but just because something is boring doesn't make it untrue.

But he used the numbers 420 and 69 a lot to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and that tactic keeps his company overvalued by a factor of 50-100 (not percent, 50-100 times overvalued).

Like he banned all those workers who freely spoke about a union.

Or when he instructed his hyperloop drivers to tell the customers how great it is to work for Elon Musk and not to speak negatively of him.

Listen I don't want to argue, I'm just going to tell you what I'm talking about.

All of those things Elon proposed or invested in at some point, said he was going to get them done in 3-5 years every time. The hyperloop "exists" technically but it's a very very far cry from its original vision of a vacuum-sealed subway. Right now it's a one way taxi service with stock Tesla cars, so it's a total failure.

I will push back on the robot assistants because I don't see no iRobots walking around, and Tesla sure didn't make any.

I also forgot to mention all those monkeys he killed very inhumanely with brain implants, which, obviously didn't work.

Seriously though people just completely forget about every project he's made that's totally bombed, I'd say his best achievement has been the progress he's made in driving AI.

There's nothing really illegal or immoral about wasting money, but one argument can be made that he could have done a lot more for infrastructure if he focused on bullet trains instead of an imaginary hyperloop technology that's been theorized for a century. It would also be nice if people stopped viewing him as a genius because it's just not true. He also uses a lot of taxpayer money a lot of the times he does these projects.
