Dreamt about the Dillos last night. GMUNny had an old ranking missing a few people for some reason and I was searching my documents for anything and searched a 'Blakely' or some other obscure user I would have minimal history with and came up with like five topics from ~2006. I wasn't able to find what she was looking for, but did enjoy time travelling to Fantaland and a hotness ranking of Rune Factory characters.

I hardly ever remember my dreams, but I have had a couple of B8 dreams. It's usually what was once the gauntlet crew though, never dillos.

Really am sad you had to deal with all that family drama recently. Makes me a bit relieved that I'm an only child despite always being a bit lonely when I grew up. I hope this isn't the end of the Jacket Saga because that final act sucked.

thankss gennyy, bit tricky how things "finished" with the Jacket Saga... on one hand he once again got what he wanted but on the other if he views me/dad/sis as "the enemy" now hopefully we don't have to see him for a long while

I'll always say though I'm thankful for the relationship I have with my sister which has always been positive and comforting as we get to vent to each other our dealings with the rest of the family. We've pretty well never been on each other's bad side, start of next year should be great as she's coming back to Ottawa for university as classes are back to entirely in-person and she'll need my help as a roomie and I get to babysit the niece again.

Nice! Speaking of trans I'm sorry I missed your reveal. What do you going by now, and does it incorporate "dil" in some way? Or maybe you went with Lynn or something completely different. I've always liked Lynn... At least you didn't run into the same issue as AriaofBolo with your nongendered GFAQs handle. You've actually nailed it on the name though with Lyn lol, nothing like a big change from my legal name or anything but I do like to go by Lyn. It was nice a couple months back visiting my niece and my sister had a sign up in the baby's room with "Welcome Aunt Lyn!" on it, and it's how I've been able to introduce myself to her partner's family. I've also enjoyed realizing my name perfectly anagrams to Lynda lol but so far COVID era's paused much consideration for change.

As for username, a few years back I made the @Grimlyn account (I think like as soon as I finally got my official date booked at Toronto's gender clinic) and was using it as my main as it was logged on my laptop which was my main posting device... but then last year gbro's laptop broke, got it working but then I bios bricked it updating. So I lent him mine under the expectation that he'd get a new one soon and I'd help a bit on its costs... but then he just never got a new laptop and I've been without since sooo just been on this account on my PC.

Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have a laptop again and I'll be back on the other account more but for now this account's PM box is needed for LFAQs (and hell GameFAQs itself knew to PM me here about the login script last week)

*edit* oh right I remember now, Grimlyn was made on the anniversary of the 13th year anniversary of this GMUN account so I enjoyed the symbolism of a rebirth exactly when this account was old enough to make an account. Using leverage is the only way so this was a perfect opportunity but our parents just don't care enough about it. I immediately text gsis when I heard and she had a talk with gdad where he says he didn't know our mom failed to get it that time at the top of the month, so he didn't think about it. Our mom though... she just doesn't really care, she's been helping gbro out no leverage bothered and she just downplays it telling gsis it'll be fine it'll be fine

our mom's the only one that has any hold over him... but that's really because he's always known to go to her for anything

he's never had any respect at all for our dad, he'd only really visit for free food and play video games and other than that he's easily annoyed at gdad's presence in his own place. been a while now that he quietly comes home visiting our mom without even mentioning he's in the area to us (thank god imo)

my sister would and absolutely has pointed to that for a long while but there's also at least 2 other big factors

One being she's just an absolutely pure-blooded denialist who does not want to hear the bad will actively choose to ignore it to continue her fantasy. So many times with gbro when we try to talk about what he's doing she'll go "that's enough now i don't wanna hear it it's upsetting" and if you press her on it she'll get angry. She just wants it all entirely out of mind.

But the other thing is her high status fantasy. Image is everything to my mom, absolutely needs all her relatives and friends to think a perfect and well-off family and that goes hand-in-hand with hiding our problems under the rug and putting on a show. Then regarding gbro specifically he's an absolute star-child just for the simple fact that he's a PhD student she can brag about, ignoring the fact he's only just stuck in school because he doesn't know how to do anything else and he's never had any goals for what he actually wants to do (and through COVID era he's been absolutely fucking around and endangering his degree to the point that the family isn't actually sure if he's ever completing it). But that doesn't matter so long as she can just describe him as a PhD student that's all the cred she needs.

She also uses that to take his word over ours even knowing how completely out of his field he goes and his hatred of feminism or whatever the else. She once came up to me asking who Jordan Peterson is (because he conservative ass partner was recommending him and got his book but mom was getting creepy vibes from the videos). I explained to him how much he rails against women's rights and how he literally gained notoriety for fighting against the protection of trans rights and so my mom goes yeah that's the kind of vibe I was getting from him. But then gbro's there and asks for him to read the stupid book and give her his "academic" opinion "as a PhD student", not giving the slightest of shits that gbro is literally the target demographic for his shit. Me and gsis were both calling it out but nah mom needs to hear the academic's take! She does that shit all the bloody time because she's always just been a class elitist obsessed with status.

There's also one other bit about him being diagnosed with Aspergers so he just gets endless amounts of leeway and sympathy. Doing anything "weird" that's all just a fault of his disorder and he can't help it nor can she punish him for it or hold him accountable for anything. Which then breeds her lifelong cycle of enabling all the heinous shit he's been doing from high school to now that's what actually led him into this entitled asshole who thinks he's entitled anything and everything he wants with less than zero regard for anybody else but rather fuck anyone who gets in my way or doesn't like me doing what I want.

ah yes the chinese "my kid is a university student and very smart" parent brag

it's allllllways completely torn gsis's confidence to shreds with our parents treating her like she's not an academic so she doesn't know anything - but she's the one child who's actually lived an independent working life on her own

it's really sad the way our dad treats her even now that she's in uni, belittling her and telling her to ask me and gbro for help even though she's plenty capable herself, she's a much more disciplined student that I ever was and wtf do i know about writing papers my school work was maths and programming with the odd dreaded presentation on computer security or whatever

(well, best presentation was for JP linguistics where me and my partner went through differences of canada vs japan baskin robins and pizza menus)

Maybe your parents ought to take a look at the Twitch streamers and YouTubers out there that make millions doing their stuff.

Not all of them came from academic backgrounds or some of them ended up having "useless" degrees.

boomers got this really rigid worldview of a time in life that really didn't pan out for future generations

it's so weird hearing them talk about degrees like they're a magic ticket to amazing jobs, they don't get that their generation pushed degrees onto all their kids so it's really not a special thing to us

meanwhile my dad boasts about back in the day of all the completely different jobs he's had in his lifetime before he settled on teaching - he doesn't get how much higher qualifications are now, and how many jobs he got that he was absolutely unqualified for (instead he uses the simple fact that he landed those jobs as a credential for him to claim he knows everything about each field)
