I don't understand the point having multiple characters. For different builds? If you have one character who is at a high ass level and can use everything already then why start up a new character?

Really no reason to start a brand new character for a different build when your original character can be rebuilt or be so strong that can use anything and everything.

I'd agree with you in Nioh 2 where you need to be on NG+4 to experience the whole game and you can change the scaling on any weapon to fit any build you're using. I'd rather start new builds in Fromsoft games than try a new build on like NG+3 for the first time which would skew my experience and make all but the strongest builds feel like shit.

Weirdest thing just happened. I was summoned to a 3vs1 against Melania. We pummeled her in her 1st form. When 2nd phase started she started with so little HP that it literally took 1 hit to kill her. Weird as fuck.

did the first phase finish with a crit of some kind?

What is the defense stat worth at high levels?

Im at 130 and at this point Im struggling to determine whether its better to take the point in defense stats or the +25 HP

neither feels like they add particularly much at this point (esp with 14 flasks+10) Enemies hitting hard as fuck in the mountaintops

finally beat the snake lord guy. had no other choice but to use that weapon found at the entrance and level it up a bit. lol

Finally beat it tonight at about 75 hours. Malenia and Radagon/Elden Beast were surprisingly easy, maybe 4-5 tries each. Godfrey/Horoah Loux actually only took one try. I feel like I was probably a bit over leveled though, around 143 for Malenia, 145 for Godfrey, and 147 for Radagon and Elden Beast. (Give or take a level or two.)

I doubt I'll get into NG+ any time soon, got other games to start up, but I had a great time with it. I had played a little Sekiro before, and got a decent ways into Bloodborne, but this is the first From Software game I've actually beaten. I think the open world helped me a lot, since any time I got stuck for a bit I could wander off and find other things to do.

HP is always useful, defense varies by attack type and has extremely marginal gains in damage negation (like fractions of a percent)

I finished my 1st (and probably only) play-through yesterday. I enjoyed the game but I felt it dragged on a bit. After the Capital dungeon I stopped exploring and just focused on doing the main stuff, through I did do the optional big bosses.

tbh after the capital there's not much to explore. the snowy areas have maybe a dozen points of interest between the two, and haligtree is just a big legacy dungeon.

You only have to fight one at a time. Sneak up behind one and it will start to walk away. Sneak up behind the second one and attack it. Just make sure you kill them both before going to a grace, the first will respawn if they aren't both dead.

I ran past them and through the gate towards the site of Grace on the other side of it. When one broke off, I would attack the other one and kill him before turning my attention to the second one. Hit the site of Grace first, though.

i started up dark souls 1 remastered this morning. it my first time playing it. sucks that PC servers are down so can't read the player messages.

I'm amazed by how bad it looks graphically lol. i think dragon's dogma looks prettier and it came out around the same time.

I'm gonna try to get through the entire game. atm I think elden ring is better.

You have to appreciate it for the classic it is, not compare it directly to ER in terms of graphics and action.

dark souls ptde looks better than the remaster imo
ps3/360 era remasters look like ass

Yeah, the patch "broke" Malenia by buffing her too much. The latency issues in MP means that she gets HP back even if she whiffs on an attack, and she gains _a lot_ of HP back if she hits you. My spells do even less damage now, and unless I'm hitting every NG+ summon, her attacks do far more damage now. You have to be near perfect to beat her. She was broken but fun before. Now she's just not.

I'm not done yet but I feel like I fucked up every npc quest except ranni and the spirit ash girl.

The blind eyeball eater I lost after feeding the fingerprint one

The battle mage guy died immediately after I saw him at the hub

Selvus died before I finished his quest

There are two of the spell merchant. One I've bought everything from and won't say anything else. The other is locked up in the peninsula.

The red haired rot girl got her arm back but I haven't seen her since then

D got killed by Fia and I never saw his brother until nokstrom and haven't seen him since

Nepheli has been sitting in the hold for like 60 game hours after I gave her the hawk. Lazy bum.

The warrior jar is still alive though I think

Don't feel too bad. Most of the NPCs will die anyway

It doesn't sounds like you've fucked up #4. Finding her real body early doesn't fuck up the quest afaik. I don't think you've messed any of the quests below that either. For the last one in particular Nepheli leaves the Roundtable Hold after giving her the hawk thingy once you've finished the questline for the Fort Haight dude I think.

Well, damn. I finally got the scavenger's curved sword. But I started using the uchigatana instead of curved swords in general in the meantime, and I think I actually prefer katanas now

^Apparently there's a bug happening right now. Someone on reddit said something similar happened with Malenia.

It's possible to get it to fall to its death, but immediately dying when the 2nd phase starts? Lmao.

No, it literally just started the second phase and the health bar quickly dropped to nothing

The theory has been that when the bosses with two stages are infected with a status when going to the next stage they die instantly. But maybe it's just random.

Its almost getting to the point where the amount of damage enemies do just straight up isnt fun

some of the common enemies in like castle sol that have endless combos that inflict freeze for example, or every boss Ive come across now has an attack that can one-shot me

its just frustrating at this point

I think I was in the middle of a black flame tornado when phase one ended, that inflicts fire damage so idk

I felt the same way. I was basically overpowered just by normal play through at the end. The bosses were melted and any area except the end, everyone was one shot.

but the end of the game areas are not fun. I think by then you just want the game over. Just get through it asap

Did the Carian Manor and met Ranni properly. Fought the dragon, but apparently it flies off if you damage it enough? I think I hit that threshold when some Rock Slings hit her as I died.

Did the wolf boss in Raya Lucaria as well as the twin Virgins boss in that bit where you get teleported to Volcano Manor.

Yep. You get to fight it again later on in Ranni's questline.

Yeah I basically just ran past all those mfs, which doesnt feel like enjoyable game design imo

Im supposedly over leveled for this area (about level 135) and those dudes just wrecked me

they def werent as bad with Niall, but he had that super fucking annoying jump attack that is nearly a one-shot if youre not at full health

now Im fighting Ansel, Stars of Darkness and I got it down to about 10% health and it did this attack where it duplicates itself and does a huge sweeping grab that is one-shots

You simply kill those two screamer dudes in the hanging cages and they won't summon the ghost knights against you.

Hopefully it's in a less pain-in-the-ass area. I've found the dragons to be pretty easy, but that one was hard to maneuver around.

a whole ass area designed around how shitty the platforming is

its only challenging because you cant tell if youre going slide off the side of these janky ass branches if you can maneuver the camera in such a way that you can even see where youre jumping

I been playing it today. After i upgraded my equipment and picked up claymore im having a lot of fun utilizing its moveset. It seems to be much much better than the version in elden ring. Also parrying is so much easier in this game so ive been using it a lot against humanoids. Im currently playing ds1 with more variety than i did with elden ring (in elden ring i did mostly jump attacks).

My only real gripe outside graphics is the backtracking and the heavy armour makes makes a loud clanking noise while moving. Makes my tinnitus flare up tbh.

Dark Souls 1 is dated, but is still a great game. I almost always rock a dex pyro in it.

Can't help you for your tinnitus, but there should be relatively little backtracking with Dark Souls 1. You don't have the quick travel option like you do in Elden Ring, which is one of its biggest quality of life failings.

The weakest part of Dark Souls 1 for me is after you get the Lord Vessel. I struggle to complete the game at that point. I have, but the first half of the game is much more immersive.

Got farther in the halgitree and it seems every part of it is designed for maximum annoyance

just passed a fortress area with a shitload of guys making it basically impossible to take on anything less then 2 on 1, plus a dumb ass putrid avatar fight with multiple knights around

now Im at a point where I have no choice but to slowly wade through scarlet rot mud while Im swarmed by a bunch of enemies

this whole dungeon fucking sucks

When I played this morning I got stuck in the bottom of blightown for about an hour. I really wanted to escape from there so I could level up the great club that I picked up. I was starting to get really mad at the game lol.

So far it seems like DS 1 has easier bosses than Elden ring but has harder mobs/areas. I've died so much from falling off of stuff and being ganged up on enemies in a corner of a wall. Can't really run away from the mobs as easily as in Elden Ring. They also seem to chase you much further.

Ugghhhhhh now I'm burned with frenzied flame and melina hates me. I wish there was an option to take it from the two fingers instead of a cutscene, I didn't realize it would happen as soon as the door opened.

I was gonna do everything anyway and get all the endings, but this is annoying.
