I am now supporting an effort that everyone just needs a gun. Everyone. When you turn 18, you get a gun. No exceptions. The only person that can protect you is yourself.

They basically do this in countries where you are required to put in a year or so of military service when you turn 18.

Yes, that's definitely what his post means. Excellent comprehension and deductive skills there.

Specifically leftists should be heavily armed, though. Otherwise you just concede to rock bottom IQ lynch mobs once anarchy kicks off.

Lol, this is true.

I support red flag laws. People who are suicidal or have committed acts of domestic violence and such should not be able to easily get ahold of firearms.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I think a lot of gun control laws go against the spirit of the second amendment. That said, I don't believe what we have is well regulated in the slightest.

Anyone should be able to own any weapon they can get their hands on, but they should need to pass a test showing basic competencey to possess the weapon, be able to prove it is being maintained and stored safely, and register the weapon so that they are responsible for damage done with the weapon.

Over 9 million new gun owners in the last two years. People are starting to realize the police aren't going to be there to protect you when things get bad. The gun control idiots just can't accept that they are responsible for their own safety and security. Far too many people think they'll just be able to run to someone else to protect them.
I personally have had quite a few people tell me "If things go south, I'll just come find you".
The hell you will! When that day comes I'll have my own problems to deal with, and babysitting your useless ass isn't going to be one of them.

Yeah, but they don't keep the guns they're assigned, and they don't have the guns with them 24/7. South Korea for example has the mandatory draft, but almost no one has guns.

Pretty much this. Toss in a few extra regulations to rule out the most dangerous stuff and suitable background and mental health checks (that are repeated every few years) to keep them out of the hands of people that are likely to be dangerous, but otherwise, go for it. Just be responsible: Every gun that is not currently in use should be securely stored, with its ammo securely stored somewhere else. If your registered gun leaves your control for reasons beyond your control (theft being the most obvious one), that should be immediately reported to the police to mitigate any potential harm arising from it. Possessing a stolen or otherwise unregistered gun should be treated as a very serious offense.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9715182/

Objective: Determine the relative frequency with which guns in the home are used to injure or kill in self-defense, compared with the number of times these weapons are involved in an unintentional injury, suicide attempt, or criminal assault or homicide.

Methods: We reviewed the police, medical examiner, emergency medical service, emergency department, and hospital records of all fatal and nonfatal shootings in three U.S. cities: Memphis, Tennessee; Seattle, Washington; and Galveston, Texas.

Results: During the study interval (12 months in Memphis, 18 months in Seattle, and Galveston) 626 shootings occurred in or around a residence. This total included 54 unintentional shootings, 118 attempted or completed suicides, and 438 assaults/homicides. Thirteen shootings were legally justifiable or an act of self-defense, including three that involved law enforcement officers acting in the line of duty. For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.

Conclusions: Guns kept in homes are more likely to be involved in a fatal or nonfatal accidental shooting, criminal assault, or suicide attempt than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense.

In a perfect world I agree. Even with responsible gun owners, they can and have been misused. Unfortunately the reality for this country is that gun ownership isnt going away. Making it harder to access both guns and ammunition needs to be the focus of you want some type of success. When you suggest abolishment, the gun nuts just dig their heels in harder and spread their propaganda.

You can still own guns in the UK and Australia, just certain types of guns, and they require a license:

It will go away if we vote into government intelligent people that will require someone to leave the U.S. if they want to keep their guns.

I think that was exactly my point. What we have now is not well regulated. If we keep the second ammendment the whole system needs to be reworked.

I don't even own a gun. I have a bow and arrow in case I ever decide to go hunting. Both compound and a recurve. If the us abolished the second ammendment tomorrow. It would have 0 effect on me.
