Do you still write in cursive?

Cursive seems to be going away. Are you sticking with it?

I only use it when I'm signing my name (and even then, it's only a shortened form of my first name and my last name)

Rarely. I use some weird hybrid of printing and cursive when I write my signature.

I only ever used it when I was forced to in high school. Once college preferred "typed out" assignments, I pretty much stopped using it entirely. I defaulted back to print writing for my own notes and stuff.

Now it's been like 27 years. At this point I've almost certainly forgotten a bunch of letters (mainly the capital versions of less-commonly used letters), and would have a hard time writing anything in full script.

Not that I feel like that's a deficiency. Cursive's almost entirely obsolete and pointless now anyway (and has been for a while), and plenty of schools have stopped teaching it entirely. So it feels like 50 years from now almost no one is going to know how to write it. Way better to use the time usually wasted on teaching it to teach kids to do something more useful instead.

I always kind of laugh when people say "Well, you should use cursive because you write faster!" as a reason to justify its use, because I always wrote in print way faster than I ever did in script.

Same thing with touch-typing versus hunt-and-peck. I tend to type faster with two fingers than most people can with all of them, and when I try to switch to touch type my writing speed always slows to a glacial crawl.

It's mainly just a question of what you're most used to doing. You'll almost always be faster using the method you're more comfortable with than you will the alternative. So you're usually better sticking to what you're already good at and not trying to switch just because other people tell you the other way is better.

Nope. All drafting lettering for the last 20+ years.

About the only thing I write in cursive is my 'signature' - but that's barely legible at this point.

I blended printing and cursive sometimes when taking notes in college, it was faster.

I don't actually use it for anything but signing my name.

At first, I was forced to in school. However, I still use it when it became only an option. I have continued to take notes, fill out forms, and do other things in cursive unless instructed to print. Cursive is quicker than printing.

I forgot cursive about 1 minute after it was taught to me. I can sign my name in it (if your want to call the squiggly lines I put a "signature"). I almost never write anything anymore, it is usually typed out.

They drilled it into my in 4th grade, telling my class that you HAD to write like that in middle school and above, and then 5th grade started and we never touched it again.

I had an interview a few years ago where the lady just derailed the entire thing by complaining about how students dont learn cursive, and theyre going to be confused when they need to sign a signifier. And didnt seem satisfied when I said that most adults I knew hardly even write out their full names in their signature.

Unsurprisingly, she was one of my worst bosses ever. Shed buy stacks of donuts every Friday, but only for our clients. And when the day was over and we inevitably had half the stack left, she would hurry to pack them in her car to feed them to the horses she lived by.

Technically the letter "X" alone counts as a real signature, and has done for hundreds of years.

My signature is basically my first name and the first letter of my last name in cursive with a trailing line that goes about as far as if I'd written out my last name.
