but if we're still around in eighteen years, our corporate overlords will keep you on life support as long as you're in any way profitable.

They don't want to keep the meat slaves around, they want useful turnover as the old meat gets tossed out and new meat replaces it. No use keeping the serfs alive when there are always more serfs being made every day. Easier to brainwash the younger ones as well.
