What were you doing?

This the Monday lockdowns all started, and businesses started to either shut,.or work from home (over the next week it was happening)
I know I got the stay home order tomorrow. But I do remember seeing updates all day today and the next day.

I was working that day, and wishing the lockdown affected my department. I'd have loved those two weeks off. I'd still love a couple weeks off now.

That said, at one point, they did decide to send us home for a set period of time some time after that. But then, one guy in my section got it, and they had to quarantine everyone. But since I wasnt with them, I had to cover. Got some good overtime that one day, though

Two days from now will mark the was the beginning of the gigaleak so I was absorbed in that.

I did go and look up what I did on that day, and we were still going into the office. Even had a conversation with a coworker about whether or not I'd be there or not because he didn't want to go in if I wasn't going on. Really miss that fucking guy. It was also the day we switched to the annoying ass slack bot for reporting our status every morning.

I had just finished watching Kingdom the night before, then I wake up, and all over the news stories about the lockdowns and everything

the first day i remember walking into a store decidely during pandemic was to pick up animal crossing and some boxes of duel overload which came out on the 20th

The first day I started working from home, and with the exception of about a dozen or so days I went into a physical office, I have been exclusively working from home ever since. Now, it looks like for the forceable future, I will probably never work in a formal office again.

Funny enough, it also started the time when I had a lot of time to "think about the future" and I went from thinking I would be a contractor for the rest of my career, to working towards a management path like I am now.

The same thing I've been doing every day.

Try to take over the world.

My workplace said they would be closed for just two weeks. Ended up being two months.

Went to the school I teach at and sat through endless Zoom calls with the board office who were absolutely swamped with work lmao.

As teachers we didn't have much to do until a day or two later when continuity of learning plans from the board office were finalized.

I recall it being a wednesday when my work at the time closed for a couple of months. And it's Wednesday today!

I was working at an optometry clinic. COVID was a blessing and a curse in that it let me reappraise my working situation.

On the 14th, my girlfriend and I had gone to visit her mother in Toronto, intending to go to a convention and concert that were happening that day. We ended up going to neither (the former was cancelled, the concert was small enough that it probably would have been fine, but we would have taken transit and that didn't seem like a good idea). On the 15th we drove back to London. The 16th, we were back to school/work, but there were starting to be talks of closing. By mid-week, the province had decided March Break would be extended by two weeks (to the 6th) for schools, and I believe it was Thursday that our college announced it would be following suit. Attendance was pretty sparse on Friday, and that was my last day in class. Work (a bakery cafe) continued for another week as take-out only before the owners made the decision to shut down, which happened a few days before the formal shut-down order came.

We never did make it back to class. I finished my program online (to no surprise, classes did not resume on the 6th) and my girlfriend dropped out (she hadn't liked her program up to that point, and really didn't like how poorly they handled the transition to online). Work started up delivery service from the production kitchen they'd just opened, gradually ramping up from being just the owners working until they brought me back on in June, then my girlfriend and I moved back to Nova Scotia in August.

Suddenly I became an "essential worker"

Had a little more freedom at work which was nice ..
Demand rose so we were offered 4x optional overtime

I work in a hospital.

Since I already worked from home at that point, nothing much different from any other day.

I went out for a rushed dinner because all of the restaurants were closing for a while. And then sometime after that, the rest of the state went haywire.

It was March 20 here. I went in to work and, on the way out, told people "I don't think I'll be seeing you for a while" in a goodbye sort of way. They didn't believe me: at the time there was some thought we'd be back in a week or two.

Here it is two years later and I haven't been back to the office for a day of work yet. (Just stopped by twice to pick stuff up)

It's was fun for a good while, but my existential crisis has really been picking up of late.

these are the pictures I took two years ago today

just working; hadn't payed attention to the news so found out about the restrictions from management and had to implement a couple things to make it all work.

March 26th, 2020, I drove to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to replace the server and workstations at a hotel. It took about 3 hours to get there, the install took about 12 hours overnight, then it was another 3 hours to get back. I think I got paid about $700 for that site.

I was scheduled to do another hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on the 30th but it was cancelled due to COVID. I had just one more hotel job, April 1st, in Omaha, before COVID shut everything down for about 6-1/2 months.

it was the last few weeks of my last semester of college. i went home and figured class would resume soon. i never returned to campus again

I got hired as a COVID-19 screener.

Wouyld have been 1 week+ of paid lock down leave from NBC, even though I knew it would last longer. I settled into the time off nicely, was banging a swell girl and had a threesome a week later.

I was at work, and the center announced that they would have to close due to COVID-19, and observe week by week. Unfortunately, they still couldn't open after a few months so we pretty much lost our jobs there.

I remember chilling at the gym I was working at, talking about the current situation with the other employees. Basically, we all concluded it was only a matter of time before the gyms were going to close, after hearing about the stuff happening in Italy and other spots around the world.

I remember going home after that and texting all of my clients saying something along the lines of "I would assume that you're going to be working out from home for the foreseeable future. I bought some home workout equipment, and I suggest you do the same, before it all gets bought out."

Turns out I was more right than I knew at the time.

March 27th, 2020, was finishing up the hotel IT refresh that started the evening before, then driving back to Omaha from Sioux Falls. Because the site took so long, the phone call I'd scheduled with the Social Security Administration came while I was still driving so I had to pull over to handle it. I'd put off until the last moment applying for the Social Security death benefits from when my spouse passed away, so it was an important phone call.
