I could not have played faster and looser with this corona thing and I didn't catch shit. How did I do it? I constantly checked to see if I had it. And not the liquor store home test, no, I went to a university hospital to get tested. Got a runny nose a couple times, but it was never the corona.

These past two years have actually been some of the healthiest years of my life. I wonder if it's because everyone was wearing masks. You guys wear masks, I don't catch your germs, I don't get as sick as I used to. But now I'm worried my body has gotten comfortable, and the next time I get a full blown cold it won't be able to handle it.

I haven't gotten sick or a cold of any type since the pandemic started. I never got sick too much, but one cold a year was the standard.

I have to thing, since I am a cashier and deal with people all the time, masks and the plexiglass probably helped out.

No, but the masks are immensely helpful in keeping people from spreading their germs. It'd be nice if we could normalize mask use for people that are sick and have to be out in public.

Yeah we don't need to wear masks over in England but that doesn't make it over. That just means restrictions are less. I still use common sense when visiting hospitals or other medical places though and put a muzzle on my face. I'd rather not catch covid or give it to people who have other issues to deal with in those places.

The fact that people literally shut down their lives for a year or two and went out of their way to deliberately limit human contact probably also helped. Fewer people in the wild means fewer potential carriers for you to encounter.

ItsKaljinyuTime posted...
So I mean, fuck a vaccine, right? The masks will do.

Except the vaccine helps the people who do catch it, by moderating the symptoms. Vaccination can be the difference between needing to be hospitalized for days and just riding out the symptoms at home.

And then there's other factors to consider. Certain people's physiology seems to be weaker against it, so they'll suffer worse symptoms if they do contract it, so they're much better off vaccinated. Same for immunocompromised people who would pretty much be fucked if they caught it completely unprotected. And even perfectly healthy people still have a lower chance of catching it if they're vaccinated than they do if they're not. In addition, people in more rural areas where they interact with people less or shut-in people who already do most of their shopping by delivery and avoid going out are going to be safer than people who live in crowded areas and are constantly interacting with people.

It's like going into combat and choosing whether or not to wear a bulletproof vest. Sure, you might avoid getting shot entirely. You might even avoid it for a long time. And even if you do get shot it might just be a graze. But if you take one directly in the chest, you're going to be very, very glad that you wore your vest... and you might just be dead if you didn't.

The problem with vaccination is that if it works the way it's supposed to, it doesn't really have a visible, tangible effect from the anecdotal perspective, so it's easier to dismiss it as being unnecessary. It's vaccination that is playing a large part in making the virus less virulent.

Ya, a viral infection isn't just 1 virus doing damage... it's, like, a couple million (math not to scale). Getting a vaccine can cut that million down to, like, 100k. But if you were infected with a BILLION then even with the vaccine you'll still get a little sick...

and even then you'd still recover more quickly

You say that now...

The logical fallacy of your argument reminds me of a story I heard in the movie In & Of Itself; the magician is telling the audience a story of a man who played Russian Roulette, with the man coming back night after night, placing the gun to his head, pulling the trigger, and surviving, and he kept doing this until one night where he loaded two rounds, survived, then three rounds, survived, four rounds, survived, then five rounds, and click, still lived. He had won quite a bit of money doing this, gaining the fame of the town, and after that night decided he would retire and not play the game any more; a few days later a thief broke into his house and he confronted the thief, the thief pointed his gun at the man's head and shot him dead.

So I mean, f*** a vaccine, right? The masks will do.

Masks won't do much of anything if nobody's wearing masks. Even then, the vaccine is an added layer of risk reduction; masks alone do not completely eliminate the risk. Being lucky enough to avoid it to date does not mean you'll never get it, and when you do, being vaccinated will dramatically reduce your risk of suffering serious harm from it. Given how trivial the cost of that extra protection is (a couple hours, a couple needles, no direct financial price), it's really a no-brainer to just get the jab.

Everyone is so quick to abandon their masks and return to "normal" is the reason why we're still in this mess.

Frustrating to see that people will continue to be stupid, selfish, inconsiderate, etc after 2 years.

I haven't been sick myself either these past two years. Double vaxxed, boosted (looking forward to my 2nd booster when everyone will need one a few months from now), and I wear a mask everyday because I work at a school. So wearing it doesn't bother me at all. In the past, I'd get sick at least once a year, sometimes twice.. and they would last for 1-2 weeks which would really suck.

I even had a coworker who got sick (not covid) and he said he recovered quicker than normal probably because he was still wearing a mask and not grabbing germs from all over the place.

So... You have no reasoning, you just believe something that you think sounds nice and hide behind faith to avoid having to justify believing it. This surprises nobody, and I'm very comfortable saying that every one of those moderations has been 100% deserved.

By no metric is Covid over. Case, hospitalization, and mortality rates remain quite significant, and while the current wave is declining, there is absolutely no reason to expect that we won't see new surges in cases in the future (and, in fact, another wave is starting in Europe as we speak that can be expected to spread worldwide in due course). That many governments are giving in to political pressure to give up trying to fight it does not in any way mean it's no longer a threat, it means elections are coming up and they want to do something popular. Abandoning restrictions entirely will kill a significant number of people for no reason. Any god whose will you consider that to be is a real dickbag that nobody should be worshipping, yourself included.

As I've said before, Jesus was a carpenter who moonlighted as a life coach over a millennium before the earliest notions of germ theory. I don't think he's the best source of public health or infection control advice.

He also probably didn't exactly have strong opinions on seatbelts.

You guys know MagicalPrincess is a account made to troll Christianity right?

They don't actually believe anything they say.

While I haven't practiced Christianity since I was forced to while growing up (1-2 times a week until 20), most of my primary&extended Christian family would find what MP says to be an insult to their religion.

I guarantee none of them or their friends would have ever said "Jesus isnt behind a mask" or let alone a seat-belt, they dont feel the need to try to relate everything to their religion, they just use them because they are intended for safety. MagicalPrincess should be banned for trying to pretend to be a religious nutcase as their gimmick.
