Basically just stop being elitist and remember that this is a shared social experience game and there is nothing wrong with co-op etc. Some fans are complete assholes so I understand why they felt the need to make this video.

I have definitely seen more people complain about soul's fans than I have soul's fans telling people to get good.

Yeah it's gone full circle and they're definitely fighting with by and large imaginary people now. Souls game are too popular and beatable for it to be any more than a few idiots, the games aren't that hard. By and large the community is apathetic to how people play the games, and most of the time welcoming and helpful to new players. That goes for the games to, compromises and changes in the design make Elden Ring the most accessible Souls game to date.

That's a different argument. The point most Souls players make is that there are several mechanics that make the game "easy", now more than ever in Elden Ring, so there doesn't need to be an option in the menu literally labelled "easy".

He isn't komplain about not being good. He likes the hopelessness of the difficulty being paired with being able to see the spirit struggles of other players as a konstant reminder we're not struggling in this intense trial alone.

He's komplaining about elitists bitching about the inclusion of an easy mode for these sort of games. People who have a stick up their ass about games being more accessible as if beating big boy games is their 1 defining personality traits.

As someone who loves the Souls games and is quite good at them, I'm in favour of them having an easy mode. I wouldn't use it, but its inclusion would not impact my enjoyment at all.

Im pretty sure the point is that Fromsoft doesnt want to have difficulty settings in their games and that they shouldnt be forced to do so.

I generally don't see this. Most Soulsborne fans are quite helpful when people actually ask for help. The problem is that many newcomers or non-fans don't actually ask for help. They just whine.

Light ribbing aside, the "git gud" responses are, I found, usually in response to people complaining that the game is too hard or bosses are unfair. Rather than for asking for tips on how to approach a boss encounter you're having trouble with, weapons, or builds.

I always ask this but, would it make them more money if they added an easy mode? It does take time and money to make a good easy mode, it isnt just flipping a switch. If the devs dont think it is worth the time and money to do it, why force them?

If anything I think it's the literal complete opposite. Whenever I see someone playing a Souls game for the first time Souls fans are rushing to overload the new player with tips and knowledge, almost to the point where I think it might ruin a new player's organic experience. Like explaining in DS1 how to get the Drake Sword or to kill the Undead Merchant for his Uchigatana and explaining nuanced mechanics about weapon scaling unwarranted.

The only time a player would be anything close to admonished is if they were complaining about the game being unfair and their deaths being the game's fault rather than the player's fault. Everyone dies in Souls games a lot, but patience and thinking about what you could've done to avoid death is what the game mechanics are centered around.

On the topic of 'easy mode' in the games, some of them do have de facto easy modes. In Demon's Souls it was the Thief's Ring. In most of the Souls games afterward it was Great Shields.

The thing is, nobody IS forcing them. People asking for it and thinking it would be nice isn't "forcing fromsoft to add one."

It isn't Fromsoft developers gasping like someone slapped their mother anytime someone suggests the games should have an easy mode. Its the fans that do that. It's the fans that rail on about "changing the artistic vision" and "if you want it to be easy, just play in this hyperspecific way that you have to look up online to even know about and cheese it." And all of that is elitist, gatekeeping BS. It stems from a fear that one group's core experience will somehow be ruined by adding in additional modes that they wouldn't ever have to touch.

Sterling themselves said it best in an earlier video:

Dark Souls shouldn't have an easy mode. It also shouldn't NOT have an easy mode.

It depends. If the AI ignores the summons the average summoner gets blasted into bits. Meanwhile, with a Great Shield, you can do things like face tank a full combo from a boss like Oceiros in DkS3 and only lose 30% of your stamina bar.

At that point your only real enemy is the camera system, which From likes to place too close to the player, causing larger enemies to dance in and out of view.

The funny thing about souls games is that it gets quite easy when you start to play the game. The problem is many people want to play THEIR way and refuse to adapt. And then come to complain

I've explained methods to best the boss and then get a response of "That's fucking, terrible design. The game is stupid, I refuse to play that way"

In my experiences, he's actually completely wrong about this.

I've seen people saying a boss is too hard, then have people give all sorts of tips on weapons and builds they can find, strategies on how to handle particularly rough patches, with some going as far as signing in and putting their summon sign down to help people.

Over the many years I have been involved with the Souls community, I have seen overwhelming evidence to the contrary of this statement. They are oftentimes extremely helpful. What they don't have any patience for is whining for the sake of whining. It's the people that aren't asking for help, and are just there to shit on the game that gets (and rightly so) shit on by the community.

Every game has its small contingent of asshole elitists. Souls is no exception and it's not special in that regard. 99% of players of any game just want to have fun and aren't assholes.
