Like...what the fuck is this dude ever talking about? How could someone listen to this dude and think he's intelligent? Dude straight up said The Bible was the first book ever created and that everything before it was just scrolls and tablets. He said that climate change isn't real because it doesn't affect "everything".

I mean the Bible thing is very very loosely true to an extent. The Bible was the first book printed on a Gutenberg press. So that specific Bible is very significant. But I don't know semantically that it's the first book ever created.

He literally obfuscates every point he makes with obscure, unrelated jargon so what he's saying sounds intelligent even though it's largely gibberish.

Bible is culturally the bedrock of morality in the western world. You don't need 10 commandments to have morality but it existed as a system that people framed their worldview around. Lately bible and religion as a moral system has fell out of favor for woke belief.

(I have no idea what I'm talking about)

While it's open for interpretation, I feel like it might *technically* be a possibility because the first book would likely have been a religious one and Christianity was prominent. I'm not sure what context or significance there was behind the remark, though.

I never understood why people EVER thought Jordan Peterson was particularly intelligent or insightful. He basically just talks in circles, says very basic shit that everyone knows, regurgitates some political talking point but add layers of gibberish to make it seem more deep and thoughtful, and / or just straight up makes stuff up.

I seriously start to question a person's level of self awareness and intelligence when they tell me they like or listen to Jordan Peterson. He's what a dumb person thinks smart people sounds like.

I simultaneously never understood why the right thought he is smart nor why the left think he's a far-right extremist.
From everything I've seen of him, he's a very bland milquetoast right-leaning guy who's dumber than a sack of rocks.
I legit don't get either side's view of him.

Talk about a guy who needs to stfu and stick to his profession. He's not a philosopher, unless constantly citing infinitely smarter people is what makes one a philosopher. Seriously just listen to him talk philosophy and all he does is quote other people, never saying anything original, unique, or interesting. Then when he has intellectual discussions with people like Matt Dillahunty and Sam Harris it's just embarrassing to see how out of his league he is.

Back in 2015 or 2016 before "anti-SJW" became "alt-right" I saw the video that made him famous. He was outside the college he works at seething at a bunch of students about Canadian bill C-16 and how it's all about compelled speech and I ate that shit up. Then I learned that the C16 had fuck all to do with compelled speech and was just adding gender expression to the list of protected classes. So I think people like him because they're ignorant dumbasses like I was. Apparently people like his self help books too...

"Compelled monogamy" is not a center-right position. Anyone who thinks he isn't far-right has not bothered to wade through his vapid blithering to learn his positions, which I suppose I can't really blame you for if you aren't into self-flagellation.

Yeah, I haven't bothered to listen to him that much, because...why?

But I've seen people on the Politics board and other leftists put him in the neo-nazi and other extremist camps and just really freak the fuck out over him, and any time I look into said topics, it's usually him just saying really dumb but not especially far-right stuff (mind you, the bar for "far" right has shifted tremendously over the years; like the denying climate change stuff has been a mainstream Republican position for decades now, so him being a climate lunatic doesn't make him "far" right in my view, if that makes sense...).

Forcing people to marry against their will is pretty fucking crazy, didn't know he pushed for that.

His initial argument as I understand it is that we'd have fewer mass shooters if monogamy was enforced. He then went on to backpeddle a bit, instead shitting on polygamy and divorce, as if his initial position didn't make his opinion very clear.

I'm not a follower of Ethan Klein, but he's got a couple more points:

Generally speaking most of these figures have some extremely questionable and extreme beliefs buried under hundreds of hours of posturing about their opposition. These figures aren't controversial for no reason.
