On a semi-related note, I bought Slay the Spire on the steam sale. I haven't touched it yet and probably won't until next weekend, but it's a no-brainer game for me to at least give a fair shake considering how much I love FTL and how frequently I hear the two compared. If I enjoy it, I can start incorporating it here

Anything I should know before going in, or is the game's tutorial systems enough for me to get a grasp of it and have fun at least kinda quickly?

StS is easy to learn, hard to master, at least in my experience. I'm not very good at it but I've beaten the game with all four heroes (at zero ascencion lol). Mostly it'll come down to learning the cards, the relics, and the various broken combos they can create.

My only beginner tip is that, later into runs, it isn't always a good idea to take the card rewards. Having a huge deck is worse than a smaller deck where you're more likely to draw cards that synergize

I did scan it through the verifier that comes with Archipelago so it should be alright, I hope. If my yaml doesn't work at all, just put my file in keysanity or default if needs be.

I tried Rogue Legacy earlier today thinking I might go for it in a future one of these. Alas, I suck. I think I got about 30 runs in and made literally zero progress in the majority of them.

Whoops, forgot to sign up for this once it was pushed back. Sign me up for a default LttP and a Hollow Knight with randomized charm notches please.

As for Rogue Legacy you do wind up with very high stats very quickly in this one, so it's quite a bit faster than a real run of the game. Also I very rarely locked the castle, I don't think I ever did during a rando.

You don't have to worry about holding people back, you get checks quite quickly. Remember to check the journal at the entrance each run, by default it's a check every time until you've gotten all journals. Also I think you might send all items when you reach the final boss, so actually finishing the run can wait until you're seriously overpowered.

Remember to refresh the room link before you play as it'll go inactive after six hours without anyone playing.

Notes: YourName1 is Sheep, the yml file was too complicated for me to fix it but the name doesn't really matter.

For Hollow Knight players, connecting a new game to the server is a bit finicky. When you click an area to type something in, don't move the mouse or else it'll stop typing. The things you need to type in are 45.83.104.96 in the first box, 63873 in the second, and then your Hollow Knight player name.

You'll need to clear the save and restart a new one whenever you quit and relaunch the game. Based on everything I know, you'll still receive every single Archipelago item (the shiny ones) and picking them up again won't do anything. Everything else in the world will be a default world, including bosses, levers, benches, etc. Stag Stations are an item so you can use those to rapidly re-explore old areas. Archipelago also includes a benchwarp mod, so you can also 'unlock all' in that if you want and try to only use benches you'd accessed previously.

I've got everything I can in Subnautica and HK. In Subnautica I most need a radiation suit and two more laser cutter fragments.

In HK, I mostly cleared Forgotten Crossroad, Greenpath, Howling Cliffs, and Resting Grounds. I only have Mantis Claw for mobility so that's about as far as I can get. Dash or double jump would really open the world up for me! I've bought everything of any value from the Dirtmouth stores and the charm shop. There doesn't seem to be anything important in my grubs or essence either but I've been collecting them anyway.

I also sent you one of your three dreamer masks, MZero! I apologize for infecting your crossroads before you even started

I think I've collected every check I can in Super Metroid w/my current equipment (morph ball, spring ball and charge beam)... even did some hellrunning through upper norfair and back with 1 e-tank and 3 reserves, hah.

After getting most of my mobility items, I've gotten all the real checks I can in Hollow Knight. I checked the tracker and looked up about a dozen I didn't even know about, so this was educational! Sadly, after keeping it on all day for like twelve hours, I finally had to shut my game down. I need Isma's Tear to get into Queen's Garden, that's where most of my remaining checks are. Either I'll get that and do it tomorrow or, hopefully, I'll get the last two dreamer masks and I can just beat the game right away.

As for Subnautica, I got my laser cutter, but I'm kind of gamed out today so I'll do those checks tomorrow. I still need my radiation suit in any case.

I beat Hollow Knight, I loaded it up intending to go to Queen's Gardens but I had all three dreamer masks so hey, I swung by the city to fully upgrade my nail and then crushed the final boss.

I finally got my radiation suit in Subnautica too. Now I just need one more modification station fragment and I could at least get all of my checks.

Yeah, there's a lot of depth to the game. This rando I got past them by using the Spore Shroom charm. Also a little sequence break you can do is using dash slash to open some gates from the wrong side. I got to the City this time by going through Queen's Garden, down into Deepnest, taking the tram to Kingdom's Edge, then entering from there. And immediatly got dive from someone right after which would have let me skip all that, haha. I should really learn to shade skip.

According to the tracker, it looks like you have beaten it. I think just reaching the heart is the victory condition, you don't necessarily need to beat it

I don't get the appeal of randomizer Subnautica because it felt like I just spent so much of the time collecting resources in the regular game (and just getting the recipes isn't enough of a time save for me, hah -- I don't want a 20 hours randomizer or however long it takes). Does it actually speed anything up? How long does it take to beat?

I actually spent a good amount of time figuring out Subnautica in order to keep up with my friends back when we first started doing this. They mostly played LTTP in 2 to 4 hours. My full-clear Subnautica record is 4 hours legit, 2 hours cheating in basic resouces (basically gold and below, I collect the more exotic stuff normally but no one wants to wait an hour for me to find 100 titanium).

The most important thing to speed it up is knowing where all the wrecks are. There are map mods out there but I just made my own map on paper with coordinates, number of checks, whether they need laser cutter, etc. Then I mapped out the shortest routes between them all and now I have a few optimal circuits. The next most important thing, if you're collecting resources at all, is to know exactly how much you need. You need two magnetite for Seamoth depth modules, for example, so every time I grab that when I'm at the 250m Degasi Seabase. It saves any long trips out solely for materials. I also save time by never building anything other than a Seamoth (and a Cyclops only at the very end for the shield generator). Two high-capacity air tanks and a few medkits are enough to seaglide to the deepest areas from the Seamoth's maximum depth, as long as you know where you're going.

The downside to all of this optimizing is it robbed Subnautica of a lot of its charm, like exploration, the sense of wonder and fear, and so on. It has become almost automatic for me. It also isn't the best game to randomize, only a handful of checks are actually required and they rarely come in an order that alters my strategy. There's no fun stuff like getting through Maridia without a gravity suit or whatever. It was a good game to play this with my friends, but I'm glad I have Hollow Knight now.

So, to answer your question, there really isn't anything to speed Subnautica up other than knowledge and practice. It's fun in an async or while playing with friends where a lot of the fun is sending people stuff, but I wouldnt recommend it on its own merits in a solo rando or anything.

I did actually grab every single one of the 216 LttP locations before clearing in one of my seeds last month, but that was a bit of an outlier based on the mode I was playing (I was swordless, so I needed the Silver Arrows to win. But I had access to every single check without them, so I just did them all to look for them/maybe find progression for others instead of making them wait on me getting the Arrows)

For comparison, I only checked around 130 locations before clearing this month, and I skipped 3-4 checks in V6 too.

It's SM64-esque. Emblems and upgrades are randomized. Getting X emblems unlocks Cannon's Core. Beat that stage to unlock the final boss, defeat final boss to win.
