Crazy how theyre having record cases even though 90% of their population over 12 is fully vaccinated. Maybe it was because they didnt get the booster?

Positive tests aren't really an insightful metric anymore because it's an all-encompassing term that doesn't account for severity. Despite all the positives it's still the antivax filling up hospitals; vaccinated people that test positive are likely to have no to minor symptoms, which is why their quantine periods are less to nonexistent.

Total positives was fine for measuring spread before the vaccines came, now that it's here it's up to the individual to protect themselves. Nowadays a simple report of "positives" exists just to fear monger and promote restrictions. At this point the reports only promote antivax views, and using the tests to justify restrictions only benefits the antivax (keeping them healthy) while driving civil unrest. Enough already.

Let me rephrase for Mr Literal here: the reports don't encourage antivax to get vaccinated, instead the antivax use it for their own propaganda. As a result there is no net gain in reporting raw numbers.

Um all I did was post a news article from a pretty unbiased source. Youre the one making assumptions and showing youre own personal bias. I just thought it was interesting because for the longest time I heard from this board and other places that we had to reach 80+% vaccination rate in order to get this thing to end. Australia is at 90% and having record cases so its just really interesting because it goes against what so many people were saying before.

Also, Australia's overall vaccination rate is ~77%. Not sure how the eligibility statistics break down, so I could believe they're at 90% of eligible people, but citing 90% as the only figure understates the number of unvaccinated people in the country by a full 56% (that is, you're implying there are less than half as many unvaccinated people as there really are).

For now, to keep other variants from spreading. Omicron differs enough from Delta (the primary culprit for non-Omicron infections) that immunity against Omicron (whether obtained naturally or through a new vaccine) isn't going to do much to slow the spread of Delta. Omicron can be expected to burn itself out because of how aggressive it is, but that's going to have little to no impact on the primary pandemic.

If Omicron lasts longer than most are expecting and we end up developing vaccines specific to it, then vaccine mandates will function to keep it in check.

So you see why this whole time its been a bit of a sham, then.

Theyve always only shown numbers. They originally used the deaths with no other facts surrounding them to pump the fear into people. When you see a large number of dead with no age-range or other exacerbating factors like health/medical history, thats 100% to drive fear into everybody.

Anyways, the new variant, while more transmissible, is much less severe than previous variants.

It's almost like a new, highly-contagious variant surfaced in the last six weeks that is better able to avoid vaccines and that people's comments before that didn't take into account a variant that didn't exist at the time.

Heck, suggesting 80% vaccination as a herd immunity threshold predates Delta, let alone Omicron.

TC seems to be unaware that being vax *still* means you can get and spread Covid, but are *highly unlikely* to get sick from it, thus not filling up hospital spaces. Being vaccinated doesn't mean you have some force field that prevents you from getting it full-stop.

And as already noted, with evolving strains, Covid is gonna end up being like the flu, in that it will be here to stay and require yearly (at least) vaccinations to ward off.
