Would you have a problem with a female auto repairer fixing your car?

This was the shocking moment when a woman car owner refused help from female employees at a Chevrolet-Cadillac service centre in Arkansas and were left appalled and offended when the woman REFUSED to allow a FEMALE fix her car and demanded a MAN!!

She insisted on speaking to a "man" about an oil change after the exchange was recorded at a South Main St Dealership

Rachel Nickell captured the moment when her female colleague Autumn picked up the phone for the customer to arrange an oil change

But when the woman hears another woman speak she says "I didn't ask for a female, i would like to talk to a male. My opinion is woman don't belong in the service department, they belong behind the scenes doing the paperwork"

That causes someone to laugh at the comment but Autumn calmy replies that there isn't a male in their service dept right now and the woman asks to be transferred to a male but soon calls back because she had to speak to sales, the nearest dept with a man.

She then says she needs an appointment for saturday morning for an oil change and hoped there would be no females on the desk when she gets there

Another employee is heard saying in the background "there will be" as the customer says the idea of a female only team is "totally messed up" before complaining a previous experience with females on a 5 minute job who took an HOUR and had to track down a male to look at her car again.

Rachel says she was offended by the call as the service director, who is also a female with 26 years experience and heads 2 service depts in 2 dealerships was notified of the video and contacted the owner on it who then FIRED the CUSTOMER over it and said they are no longer welcome there.

Would you have a problem with a female fixing your car?

Changing your oil is like the second or third easiest thing you can learn. What the hell is she gonna do if she breaks down in the middle of the road all by herself with no cell service?

This is why basic car maintenance needs to be a class in high school.

Replacing a tire and changing your brakes. The former being the first thing you should learn because it teaches you basic safety when working with cars, the latter because taking a tire off is mandatory if you want to reach the brakes lmao

4 might be replacing a car battery? Idk, Im very much a worrywart, so I always take more time with that one.

Changing a battery is like 4 bolts, a car often has 5 lug nuts per wheel and you need to jack it, I'd say a battery is easier to change.

Personally it's battery, oil, wheel then brakes.

Why not? A small 1l in the boot just in case sealed. In any case, oil is preventative care, not a repair. If you have a problem with your oil so bad you need to stop somewhere, your engine is probably completely fucked, changing the oil won't do anything for you.

One of my best trainees were female, and one the people doing the best work beside me was also female... and it was never cases of y'know... Presumably because she's a competent mechanic. I think you're misunderstanding: The sexist prick in this case is the customer, not the employee.

If you break down in the middle of the road, an oil change isn't likely to help you. If oil is the problem, by the time you actually break down because of it, changing it won't solve the problem. Tire changes, boosting, and probably a few other skills, certainly, but changing your own oil is very much a convenience/cost saving measure, not an emergency preparedness one.

If you've got a car with a history of burning oil (which starts to become an issue around the 150k km mark, for many cars), you probably should. Regular, frequent oil changes can pre-empt that, but it's still not a bad idea to keep a jug in the car and check the oil every time you gas up to make sure you can top it up if needed.

Yes. That is a phrase that's sometimes used when talking about long-term customers. It's more common in professional contexts (like a lawyer or accountant firing a client, or a doctor firing a patient), so it's a little weird that Ducky's using it here, but it's not wrong. Phrased another way, the owner has banned her from the shop.

Oh it's definitely wrong. Customers get banned, not fired.

Clients, however, get fired. In the case of a car service centre, there's no formal client-provider relationship to terminate, but customers do tend to stick with the same place on a long-term basis and have files established for them/their cars. That puts them in kind of a weird middle ground between being clients and being customers, so while I personally wouldn't go with "fired" over "banned," I can understand why somebody might.

The bottom line, though, is that "fired" is not exclusively a matter of employers getting rid of employees. Ducky's just using it a little weirdly, as he do.
