Movie idea: One of those generic, dime-a-dozen Christmas movies that gradually turns into a psychological thriller. The man character starts out as your typical overworked city girl who just can't find the right man, but by the end, has become paranoid, unstable, and untrusting of anything.

holiday thriller does seem like an untapped genre combo.

Got a final late Christmas gift from my mom; some more Silent Hill merch. A keychain and pin with the dog from 2's dog ending, a rubber wristband for 3's Lakeside Amusement Park, a photo of Toluca Lake (or at least, the real life one that inspired it), and a keyfob for the Lakeview Hotel. There was also this card advertising this podcast called Creepy & Weird. Never heard of it, but I'll check it out.

My mom tells me that she just got the hotel keychain; she wasn't expecting all that other stuff with it.

Man, I've got this bit of music stuck in my head that I know I've heard somewhere recently, but I just can't remember from where. This is gonna bug me. I'll probably just listen to something else and hopefully take my mind off it.

Maybe it's from the instrumental Christmas music my uncle had playing at the Christmas party? I'm pretty sure it wasn't from something violent. It was too light-hearted for that.

Seriously, my bro's cat has become like some kind of parasite, constantly jumping from host to host, always looking for a person to lay on. My aunt stayed the night again last night and the cat even laid on her.

Got the Resident Evil Revelations games since they were on sale for less than $20 altogether.

They're pretty good; definitely worth a play. 1 is kinda unbalanced, though. There's a good few hectic moments where you're being swarmed while you have to take down a strong enemy or get somewhere on a time limit. And only Jill get to use weapon mods while there's multiple points where you play as other characters who are stuck with predetermined unmodded equipment. There's some dodge move where you have to press a button and push the thumbstick at the right time while an enemy is about to strike, and there's no real clear way to do it consistently.

2 is more balanced. First off, you can manually do the dodge move whenever! You follow only two sets of characters; one with more puzzle solving and one with more combat, and both of the combat characters can use gun mods. You can swap back and forth between combat and non-combat characters who can reveal hidden items, and the AI partner is invulnerable to regular damage. An AI combat character will also provide cover fire without eating into the ammo supply you've been gathering, but they won't do as much damage.

2 also has surprisingly good atmosphere, likely because it didn't start out on the 3DS like 1 did. There's a dark, foggy forest that Barry and his partner go through in chapter 1 that's particularly nice to look at. It seems like it's the point where the RE series started the move into less bombastic action horror.

For some reason, my version of 2 didn't think I had chapters 2 and 3 installed, so I had to delete it and redownload it, while making sure that all chapters past the first downloaded one at a time, in order, which seemed to do the trick. So, be aware of that if you get it.

Beat RE Revelations 2. It was absolutely great! I liked that things you did as one set of characters affected things for the other later down the line, so doing things differently adds replay value.

Literally the only connection to Rev. 1 was that a certain character's parents died in a terrorist attack that happened there, so you could easily skip it if you wanna get right to the more polished experience.

So RE Revelations 2's extra episodes are kinda dogshit. One consists of nothing but insta-fail stealth missions with very wonky enemy vision, so sneaking by one behind the low walls may or may not work. It's pretty much a coin toss if you'll get spotted.

The other? Hoo, boy...

You have to hunt animals for meat and gather supplies for an upcoming horde attack. Get enough meat, you get a ration, which acts as a mission retry token. Run out, and your file gets deleted. This is all well and good until the second hunting mission. This has patrolling enemies mixed in that you can potentially stealth kill by sneaking up on them. If an enemy spots you, that nice and luxurious 15 minutes to scavenge suddenly becomes 25 seconds to rush to the exit for no fucking reason. As said earlier, stealth is very screwy. These guys are perfectly killable with bullets, so that limitation is just utter nonsense. And this is followed up by another horde attack, which, gasp and shock, you're underequipped to deal with because you were forced to abandon a bunch of perfectly good supplies!

Yeah, fuck that. Fuck your artificial difficulty, nonsensical limitations, and inconsistent stealth. I'm not putting up with that garbage.

The first one, Little Miss, is much more doable, doesn't spoil anything from the story, and nets you a good 25k skill points, so it might be worth doing if you first get it.

According to posters on the Rev. 2 board, two of the patrolling enemies are bugged and will always spot you if possible. The one at the beginning can only be killed by waiting for it to walk next to a fire extinguisher, shooting the extinguisher to blind it, and then you can actually stealth kill it. Of course, that leaves the issue of the other bugged one, who is further away from the exit, but you're not given extra time to flee. Seven years and they never fixed those things. And I can't imagine they ever will, since it's available on older systems that are basically on life support now.

SO glad this is an optional chapter.

Holy shit!

Had a candle lit and the GF's cat hopped up on the table and actually caught his tail on fire for a second! He's unharmed, thankfully. Just a bit of singed fur. Definitely not using that thing again while he's around.

Crazy. Can't imagine how much worse the extra burnt fur smelled. Ours was bad enough just from a inch or so. Do they just not feel fire on their tails? Like, the bit under the fur?
