Is it Different in terms of number of posts or number of posters or site traffic? How is it different than u remember? Is it not still the best place on the site? Genuinley curoius.

It was a different time, when the internet was smaller. During its heyday (up to 2010), it attracted a lot of intelligent, witty, and cool people, and was a huge hangout for nerd, geek, and intellectual culture.

The world is "objectively" worse than it was in the past. But that's both an illusion of aging as well as an imbalance of hindsight.
Certain things about the world have gotten worse, but other things have gotten better. There are always betters and worse's defining any time period. And it always sucks for the people who live in such a period, but people still said the same thing decades ago -- that the world sucked -- but in reality it's just that we always notice the negative more and there's always going to be negatives.

tl;dr - The world always sucked, it just sucks in different ways depending on the day and age.
The world and everything in it, including this shitty board, is made up of ever-changing good AND bad qualities.

Sometimes you just have to stop giving a shit.

As for the internet getting worse, I'd like to point out that social media has only amplified a long-standing problem with the internet.

There has always been cliquing of likeminded folk, including those who hold fringe beliefs and beliefs founded on misinformation and ignorance. All the way back in the days of usenet and IRC this shit was happening. AOL chat rooms dedicated to conspiracy theories... forums centered on crackpot bullshit that flies in the face of logic, science, and reason. It's always been this way.

But as the internet expanded and evolved, and social media began to take hold in popular usage, those fringe groups got bigger and louder as their soapboxes grew.

The internet isn't worse today than it was 30+ years ago. It's always had more than a fair share of assholes peppered throughout its user base. It's just these days it's easier for those assholes to seek out fellow assholes and circle jerk their way into ignorant oblivion

I remember when someone would suggest a game and a bunch of us would play it as group. Now all we do is argue. If anyone disagrees about anything you can just tag them with what it was about and never forget why you don't like that person.

Then there's blocking. I'm curious how large is the portion of the board that are entirely unaware of what another portion of the board are posting.

Disagree.

In the 90's (maybe early 2000's) you either had to own a computer (which most thought was a useless expense) or visit a computer lab in public. You also had to know how to access the internet and how to use it (which Joe Q Public did not).

Since the mid 00's, everyone generally has high speed internet (and devices to access it) and gaming companies / app companies started targeting the unwashed masses. Did conspiracy theories and misinformation exist on mIRC chat rooms back then? Sure. But to a much lesser extent.
