I liked Yusei starting off as a more serious, mature protagonist compared to the other two (three with Atem) protagonists of the early series, and that his deck in the first season seemed like something that could actually be realistically run. Yugi kinda was overshadowed by Atem and had to grow out of, Jaden I liked how he wasnt treating matters like srs business at first, and then exploring that mentality being challenged. --- "It's unpleasantly like being drunk." Did they every try a mature protagonist again after Yusei, or did they go back go moron kids. Not that being a kid is a problem in itself, being idiot hero cliche shonen protagonist is the problem (which both Jaden and Yuma were). Interestingly, in the final season of GX that never aired dubbed, Jaden actually does a 180 after the events of the previous season (as he gets his memory back), and becomes so mature he becomes alienated from all his friends who are still mentally immature high school kids. The theme of the final season was actually about growing up and becoming an adult. Yuma is a moron all the way to the end though, he never changes.
