Are the DS games able to be ported? Or do they really use the dual screens?

Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia would be easy. The second screen was just for inventory/map and Dawn had the boss rune gimmick which they can just remove.

well there were also the ice blocks in dawn that you had to destroy with the touch screen.

The in-game encyclopedia shows every item, weapon, soul, enemy stats, etc without having to unlock anything, meaning those hidden hint books for Aria are just right there, kinda spoiling what you have to do to reach the big reveal

Also there are manual scans for all the games in multiple regions, every retro collection should have that

You think so? I couldn't get very far in Order of Ecclesia. Stupid spider/crab boss in the tower prevented me from getting any farther. I totally got the pattern, but it was hard to maneuver.

that may be where I stopped OoE too

Order of Ecclesia expects you to learn the patterns instead of tanking the bosses.
It's satisfying once you figure out their patterns.

The DS games are harder to rank for me, DoS first is obvious but then I have hard time deciding between PoR and OoE

The real hot take, though, is DoS>AoS>SotN

I've got 85% map so far in Aria, at only 3 hours. Pretty insane how quick it is when you generally know where you're going, and you're good at the combat.

I'm one of those CotM haters, I just can't stand the double tap run, basically. And all the basic looking backgrounds. Great music though.

CotM is, uh, annoying. Im still enjoying playing it, but theres like a ton of annoying little things.

Yes. The only games in between were a classic-style Game Boy game and the two 3D N64 games

CotM - 20 year spoiler, but:
Beating the game unlocks other modes, sequentially that modify your stats quite a bit - Fighter, Magician, Shooter, and Thief (order of Fighter/Magician might be backwards.)
Vampire Killer (base game:) +10 stats per level
Magician Mode: gains strength/defense slowly, but starts with all DSS cards already, and gets obscene INT gains every level.
Fighter Mode: gains strength/defense quickly, can't obtain DSS cards at all.
Shooter Mode: poor base stats, but subweapons gain a huge damage buff/Heart Ups give more hearts. The Knife can be collected twice to gain throw it like a homing missile.
Thief Mode: poor base stats in everything other than Luck, so DSS cards and droppable equipment rains like crazy (which you'll need, 'cuz potions and healing in CotM sucks)

the DSS card system is unique though and thankfully this collection has those indicators when an enemy can drop a card so it's not as frustrating as it used to be and I always thought the music was pretty good. Being a launch GBA game though meant no backlight at the time of release so the game was impossible to see. This caused Harmony of Dissonance to go in the opposite direction and focus on having very bright and good looking graphics, but it came at the expense of its music which can be hard to listen to.

Then they finally get it all together when Aria of Sorrow which was the first game that I would put on the same level as SotN.
