This is a margherita pizza. Note the blobs of cheese and the thick tomato that's more of a paste than a sauce. Source: Googling "margherita pizza" -- there were 2 images in the first 40 that were a standard pie.
Why are you arguing with me when I am literally saying the same thing as you...?

My point is that a lot of pizza places throughout the country will call a regular cheese pie a "margherita pizza" to sound fancy, so that's probably why so many users are saying that margherita pies are the most common pizzas.

Editor's note: a real margherita pizza is only your classic standard pie in Italy. Everywhere else it's a Ninja Turtles style cheese pizza (or deep dish if you're in Chicago). If your pizza place is serving anything other than the picture azuarc posted while calling it a "margherita" pie, they are wrong.

Margherita pizzas are not popular in the US like they are in Europe.

I really only see them here at more upscale pizza places or neapolitan shops.

Yeah, the places that offer real margheritas in the US are the ones usually charging $16 for a personal sized pie. It tastes good, but to me, pizza is one of those foods where even the cheapest stuff is tasty enough that I have a hard time justifying triple the price for something smaller.

Though I'll say the first time I tried a margherita was at a roadside pizza wagon in southern Utah of all places, and it was so delicious that it immediately became a favorite (surprisingly cheap, too). I make it a point to hit up that wagon any time I'm in the area.

I feel like there must be some nice cheeses I haven't tried, though nothing specific comes to mind.

Not a dish, but there are times I'd like to try a really old Laphroaig.

And while I've expanded my ability to handle spicy foods quite a bit over the past few years, I also feel like I could go a little bit further. I went from being an absolute baby with spices to being able to handle most 'American guy spicy' level foods.

THANK YOU. Someone was gonna have to say it. Grateful it didn't have to be me.

Although if y'all really want deep dish in Chicago, we'll still take you. The only time I've ever gone for deep dish as a local is when we're taking out of towners for dinner XD

EDIT: for me, I am interested in but have never tried takoyaki.

I actually found a restaurant that delivers to my house that is in the middle of nowhere, that has both Chicago and Detroit deep dish pizza.

I am intrigued.

What's a good beginner deep dish pizza?
Deep dish isn't just a thicker crust...the sauce goes on top of the cheese. It's basically a cake with sauce frosting.

Regular crust pizza is standard. Deep Dish pizza is an experience.

There's a restaurant near here run by a chef from Chicago. Their deep dish pizza is amazing, but I don't get it often because it's just so massive.

Margherita is definitely not the vanilla flavor of pizzas. A plain red pizza is. And pepperoni is chocolate. And various other toppings represent other common flavors. Considering margherita is a variation on "normal" pizza, that makes it more like never having soft-serve ice cream.

Red pizza and plain pizza are different things around here. I've never heard anyone use the term 'red pizza' unless they're referring to the Rhode Island-style.

I'm.understanding now, I think, red used to denote between a white sauce pizza and a red sauce (or even a bbq sauce), but a plain red pizza is a cheeseless pizza.

Regular coffee is not black, milkshake does not have ice cream.,

I've never had deep dish and have no real desire to change that. It's not like it uses different ingredients than standard pizza or even really gets cooked in a different way (I know everything gets put in a deep pan, but that's hardly a radical way of preparing pizza)... it's just the re-balance of ingredients that seems kinda gross and ruins at least part of what makes regular pizza so great.

It's fine to try. I actually really enjoy it cold the next day for whatever reason.

But traditional NY pizza murders it.

I'm using red to say it's not a white pizza. I'm honestly at a loss for terms at this point, because apparently I can't call it a normal pizza since that term is under contention. But yes, there's cheese unless you specify. Red sauce and cheese, throughout, in a very consistent fashion.

If you want a truly red pizza, though, tomato pie is a local specialty.

Had takoyaki for the first time recently. I was expecting something more like fish balls (which isn't my favorite) but was pleasantly surprised

Also, deep dish isn't necessarily bad, it's just a different thing. A place where I grew up had this deep dish meat pizza that was so good when I was 14 and infinitely hungry

Just ate my very first slice of deep dish pizza.
I got the Supreme Vege with Feta Cheese (Greek Feta Cheese, Green Peppers, Onions, Tomatoes and Olives) and added Pepperoni and Blue Cheese for the heck of it.

It's definitely something I'd rather have at the store. It got a bit mushy otw here (yay humid Malaysian weather).

The flavour was pretty good but so... much... cheese... and... sauce.
10/10 prefer thin crust but it was an experience.

I also got like a free stromboli. Never had that before either.
So much... CHEESE.
... and the salad I got had cheese as well...

... I'm gonna go on a cheese break for at least 2 months.
Man I'm jealous. I love cheese!
