After hearing and seeing them online, I'd like to try these one day:

- Sea urchin (especially in sushi and rice bowls)
- Thai green curry
- Sakotys
- Key lime pie (I love citrus flavors and I love pie so this should be a winner)
- Deep dish pizza
- Margherita pizza (there's actually a place not so far that can deliver, I plan to order it soon-ish)

Key lime pie is great and maybe it's just a Florida thing but i also find it super easy to find in like grocery stores (not quite as good but still good).

Things I'd like to try but haven't is tough. Maybe poutine although i've had similar.

Aren't most pizzas non-margherita pizza? Why are you asking this?

I'm curious to try some of the less common meat types, but not enough to go out of my way and find them. I've never even had, for instance, venison. I also have a friend who insists I need to try fondue.

Don't spoil uni for yourself by eating it at a subpar sushi place. It's one of the most delicious things in the world if it's fresh and prepared correctly.

Anyway my answer is Yorkshire pudding or a real shepherd's pie from the UK

Because it's weird (to me) to have specifically never had margherita. It's like never having had vanilla ice cream

Margherita is definitely not the vanilla flavor of pizzas. A plain red pizza is. And pepperoni is chocolate. And various other toppings represent other common flavors. Considering margherita is a variation on "normal" pizza, that makes it more like never having soft-serve ice cream.

Truffle is the thing that first comes to mind. Alone, it's obviously not a dish, but it has become so ubiquitous with haute cuisine that I at least want to know what the real thing smells like.

I've tried most of the other foods that I've always been curious about, like urchin and durian.

I think a lot of people in the US at least have never had a margherita pizza, at least outside of the major cities. I haven't, and I'm pretty sure most of the people I know IRL haven't either. It's just not on most regular pizza places menu.

Uh as for me, there is quite a lot, but nothing specifically comes to mind as 'most wanted'. I've made a dent in some of the standout Japanese food I never had a chance to try recently so I've had stuff like ramen and takoyaki, but there are still more like okonomiyaki and taiyaki I still wanna try.

Otherwise I guess its mostly other Asian dishes. There aren't a lot of good places that serve authentic asian cuisine around where I live that is reasonable to drive to so I don't get a chance to try a lot of Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc

Huh, fair enough

I guess it's different in the UK then. Margherita is like the basic pizza (the vanilla ice cream), and everything else is more or less Margherita plus toppings. With the exception of stuff like Chicken BBQ or whatever.

My favourite dish is Risotto Frutti di Mare, and I'd like to try that in actual Italy at some point. Or pizza in Naples and whatever. I basically want to consume the nation

It's not typically on fast food pizza menus but it's pretty common for "nicer" pizza places to have it as the default instead of plain cheese, I think. In my experience, any kind of brick oven pizza place probably has it.

I want to eat a good Risotto. As much as I cook, you figure I would've gotten it from anywhere or made it myself by this point.

I've also never eaten, as far as I'm aware, a curry dish from the UK. I've had an Indian style one and hated it, and kinda was against them for the longest time.

(Enough time has passed since then that I'm also of a mind to try chicken tikka masala)

I went to a fugu specialty restaurant when I was in Japan and had it a bunch of different ways.

It's delicious. Not terribly unique compared to other white fish, but still one of the best seafood meals I've ever had.

The thing about margheritta pizza is that around where I live, 90%+ of pizza places are fast food franchises, namely Pizza Hut and Domino's. And they just don't sell margheritta.

I still haven't tried durian, only durian flavored things.

Beef Wellington is a good answer too. I made one myself but it wasn't great.

Yeah one of my old restaurant managers loved balut but he ate the one that's farthest along the process so it had all the crunchy bits like the beak being fully formed.

I'm gonna stick with the super baby one for my first try

Durian has a strong smell, yes, but depends on the variety it can smell like strong alcohol, overpowering fruity/floral notes, and some people describe it as onion (I don't see it personally).

But it's not actually that bad IMO. And if it's a good durian the smell is totally worth it. Sweet, rich, and custardy...

I had it once and the smell was unpleasant, but I enjoyed the unique sweet/bitter flavor. It's amazing to think that something that custardy and strange is a natural fruit.

The cost is prohibitive though, at least here in the states. The single fruit I bought was $25 (since a durian has five edible segments, it was five bucks per "custard pod"), and it can get way more expensive than that.

I think people are getting confused because some pizza places will call their standard pie a "margherita" pie since the ingredients are basically the same as a classic cheese pie.

Margherita is simply buffalo mozzarella, tomato sauce, and fresh basil, which sparsely cover the dough.

Weird, I had no idea I lived in Rhode Island. And the next two states over are also Rhode Island. And literally everywhere I've ever been.

Margherita is a specialty item. You can certainly get it, but you have to ask for it. It isn't the default. And if you need any proof of that, just look at the menus of all the major pizza chains.

This is a margherita pizza. Note the blobs of cheese and the thick tomato that's more of a paste than a sauce. Source: Googling "margherita pizza" -- there were 2 images in the first 40 that were a standard pie.

I mean I literally saw about half a dozen different brands of frozen margherita pizza (and yes, all of them were actually labelled that) at the supermarket last week

The 5 pizza delivery places nearest to me serve it, and in most cases it's the first item on the menu. Checked Pizza Hut and Papa John's too and they're both offering it. 99% sure my first ever pizza was a Pizza Hut margherita.

Anecdotal evidence I know but... I mean you can see why I'd think it's a pretty common thing. Guess it's just treated differently in different places.
