Board 8 > What do you guys think about legendary Pokémon?

Im currently playing Pokmon Soulsilver and have defeated 7 gyms, but I cant decide if I want for once to go with a legendary team to beat Red with or if I should just train Lugia or no legendary at all.

This made me wonder what Board 8 thinks about these uber Pokemon..

Lugia isn't even the best option, but Mewtwo requires you to go out of your way to get it.

Usually catch em and make a team with only legendaries. Not for main game usage though.

I've used Articuno, Zapdos, Ho-oh and Registeel in teams before. Never used any other for more than a novelty fight or two

I'm not against them per se but they come too late and most of them don't have great designs

The actual process of capturing legendaries is the worst part of Pokemon, but I don't have strong feelings toward them outside of that.

If I find one I like (before the game is over, Mewtwo) I usually put it on my team. Otherwise they're just there.

Liked to use them as a kid, don't do it anymore. Still enjoy catching them.

I think legendary designs started to go downhill around Gen IV or V, though.

I like to catch them, if I do end up using any of them it tends to the be the mascot of the game of whichever version I'm using.

They're fine for story reasons.

But I hate HATE event-exclusive legendaries. The events are usually time limited and region limited and players in non-acknowledged regions like Indonesia never get the chance to obtain, say, Hoopa and Volcanion. Although we bought the games legally and everything. It's also very unfriendly for late adopters. These are already rare Pokmon that you don't get to see anywhere unless you follow the yearly movies religiously and they still make them even more unobtainable, unknowable, and unloved? Why the heck, The Pokmon Company?

I didn't even know that was still a thing. I remember the days when you had to physically go to a con and get a special item downloaded onto your game (Like the eon ticket, which ofc I never did). I can't believe it's not accessible everywhere now.

Putting forth the caveat again that I gave up on Pokemon after Black and White....

Generally awesome. Can't think of too many legendaries whose designs I disliked, or even didn't just didn't care for (though looking things up again, it's true most of the Gen V ones suffered the same design nosedive so much of that generation's Pokemon did). I remember composing all-legendary teams more than once, as a boy, and I can't recall any games where I didn't want at least one on my final team (usually also the mascot for me).

I usually don't use them because they come late and I'm already attached to my main team by then. But if I really like one I might use it anyway.

I don't use them usually, and I wouldn't exactly say they're fun to catch since it's just monotonous ball tossing until the RNG clicks, but a lot of them have cool designs and that's nice.

The legendary collect-a-thon in the OR/AS post-game was actively a negative for me, since it was all so repetitive and boring. The last decade of games upping the catch rates for story legendaries was a wonderful blessing.

I'm just as likely to use them as I am non-Legendaries. I use who I like as a core team, and swap a couple in or out for type matchups.

Same as any other Pokemon, really. If I like them I'll use them, otherwise I won't. I'm not really a fan of most legendaries though
