I've been wearing them since elementary school. Basically wear them from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, aside from when i'm showering or something.

I need glasses to see anything at a distance, but I have to take them off to see things up close.

My near vision is super strong, I can read microprint that most people can barely even see. But at a distance I'm blind as a bat.

God damn right I'm rubbing it in! What's the point of seeing perfectly if I can't tell people with poor vision how amazing it is to not have to see an eye doctor or use glasses/contacts?

No, and oddly enough I am the only one in my family like that. Everyone else needs glasses/contacts. My dad is at the point where he is at like a -25.00, and even that can't get him good enough eyesight to drive at night. He is supposed to get cataract surgery to get him back to decent levels, but it keeps getting put off due to covid.

I'll probably need reading glasses in 5-10 years, not sure though. Haven't noticed any problems yet.

Same. I have profound myopia and my vision is so bad now that surgery is a serious consideration.

Contacts are uncomfortable and hella expensive. And they actually aren't as sanitary as people think. They can really raise your chances of getting eye-infections. If you slip up even once with your hygiene then they can cause a lot of issues. Plus, you can forget you're wearing them.

I honestly don't get why anyone prefers them, it just seems so much worse than glasses to me, but to each their own...

I like them for many reasons. Like not having to wear them on my face where I will feel them. And I can lay on my side and still see. And wear my sunglasses. Or 3D glasses (though I dont see 3D stuff as much anymore). Also, better peripheral vision, IIRC And they arent constantly sliding down my face

No, I'm cursed with excellent vision, along with excellent everything else. I always thought glasses looked kinda neat, but I'm obviously better off not needing them.

People want to look as healthy as possible. There's a genetic attraction there, probably, since most people and animals are biologically driven to seek out healthier-looking mates so they can have healthy offspring, even if those elements don't necessarily benefit humans as much as they did in the past because society is much more complicated than that.

Of course, then you get people like Horned who talk about being turned on by women are deaf, etc, which I'm not sure if his very overt interest (we're talking multiple topics) was a fetish thing or the fact that he feels he needs to power over women. Either way, that was some creepy shit. I don't know if he still does shit like that, because I finally just blocked he really creeped me out at times (which I would have rather not done, because he sometimes had interesting topics).

EDIT: Just checked, and he was only on my ignore list. I moved him to the block list as a courtesy, since otherwise he may have been responding to me not knowing I can't see it.

Some people like glasses, as well. It may be because glasses seem like a sign of being smart, even though we know in reality, glasses dont actually measure that

Honestly, I can't believe that for a second.
You know how many genetic abnormalities and stuff are out there because we breed the way we do? If we actually scrutinized our mates based off of those factors then there wouldn't even BE that many poor-sighted people to begin with. Among other things.

Humans aren't attracted to others of our kind based on health and survivability. And if you want to get really technical then we're not even in an environment where health matters like it otherwise would, since we are protected by society and have availability to medicine and other corrective treatments.

Saying humans pick their spouses based on "genetic attraction" is ridiculous. When's the last time you heard somebody say "Yeah, I like that guy but I'm not going to be with him because he is lactose-intolerant and I don't want that trait passed down to my kids"?
Also, "I have poor eyesight but I don't want to look inferior so I'll pick contact lenses instead because I don't want potential mates to be biologically driven away from me."
>_>

I've worn glasses since I was 9 - I'm near-sighted. My parent suspected as far back as when I was 5 that there was something wrong with my vision - apparently I couldn't see an airplane high up in the sky, but could easily see the Goodyear blimp flying overhead.

I'm not too keen on wearing contacts - I'd probably gouge my eyes out of their sockets before I ever get one contact lens in right.
