I can no longer watch weekly shows anymore. If I can't binge it, I don't wanna watch it.

Releasing an entire season at once could also deter some viewers. Some folks may see how long a season is and decide not to give it a chance.

That said, I kept putting off certain series on Netflix for years until finally watching a a few episodes and next I find myself not able to stop.

It works for some things, doesn't work for others. I prefer brand new anime series to be week-to-week but some thriller-type series I'd rather have all at once to binge.

Kind of like how novels ruined serialized stories, since then everybody wanted it all at once.

If you compare them the same way, kind of. I would love for all restaurants to have an all you can eat price, tbh

Sure. But not all I can eat without paying a shitton more Though at that point, its more like all you can afford instead of all you can eat

Yeah, I gotta disagree with you.

I enjoy binge watching shows also, but having them released weekly builds anticipation and speculation better imo.

I enjoy the experience of watching a weekly show and discussing it throughout the week with other viewers. Having all the episodes come out and having the whole "I'm on the 3rd one don't spoil it" or "Yeah, I finished the whole thing in one sitting" makes it more difficult to have that same anticipation and harder to speculate together if you aren't on the same episode.

In fact, speculation and anticipation for the "binge" show is usually focused on whole seasons over individual episodes in my experience.

This binge or nothing culture is dumb as hell, plenty of shows work better week to week.

I also wouldn't deny myself a show I want to see just because I can't watch all episodes in one sitting.

Having self-control makes this a non-issue, but I guess we don't have a lot of that now days.

Whenever I find a good show, I'll limit myself to one episode a day, because if I do more than that, it just dilutes the experience. Sometimes you need that real-world passage of time to digest what happened, and build anticipation for yourself.

Novels existed before serialized stories.

I've noticed a lot of people are very spoiled in that way these days, and in regards to commercials. Like they've completely forgotten the old ways of TV. I have no problem with either of those.

I think its just a person to person thing. No show really works better week to week form me, for example Im more likely to drop a show/forget about it if I do that. So, I usually just wait for the season to be out snd binge Which I dont. Waiting for the whole season to come out before watching is easier than watching one a week for me

While I have self-control. I have room many shows to catch up on. Plus, I usually binge series with a work friend. One episode a day for me would probably just make me bored of it, tbh Haha. That said, whatever works for each person is different

For me it's the other way around. I've seen people refuse to watch something that's not fully available instantly, and I've actually been ridiculed for still watching broadcast TV at all.

I agree that having time between episodes gives you more opportunity to appreciate each one. I don't really like to binge any shows (besides action shows that are light on plot like DBZ); I enjoy taking time to digest each installment. For me "binging" is doing maybe one or two episodes a day.

I typically won't even watch season to season. I will often wait until a show has finished its entire run. I don't care how many years it takes. In the last decade or so the only notable exceptions I've made have been The Mandalorian, Rick & Morty, and The Walking Dead. Those I will at least consider watching season to season, though I will get behind a season or three with TWD.

Edit: I was like this before Netflix. Netflix had nothing to do with it.

I think anime and manga did this for me. I use to watch a lot of shows weekly around 2004.
