In addition to everything that's already been said, there's also a racism factor with white athletes not wanting to play especially if it means they're going to look inferior to the best black players on a regular basis.

Much like why soccer thrives on countries with slums and ghettos. Because there ain't shit else to do from the ages up till you go to college besides get into a gang or die. So they intead play soccer/football and actually dedicate their life to getting better.

Same concept for baseball in rural areas, it's all relative to space given to play the game.

Basketball is a cheap sport. You just need the ball and urban cities have basketball courts in all their parks. You can practice basketball by yourself too. Stuff like Soccer, Hockey, Baseball, Tennis requires expensive equipment and you cant really practice that alone.

Yes but there's no need to account for female population in a male-only league. Saying they're 6% of the population but 75% of the players is misleading when 100% of the players are still only 50% of the population.

Soccer? Expensive?

All you need to play soccer is a ball and two sticks to make goalposts.

There's a reason soccer is the most widely played and most popular game in the world. It's the cheapest sport to play.

But that's also why Basketball is such a popular game in urban areas. All you need is a ball and a hoop. And the court doesn't take up nearly as much space as a baseball field.

Well, that's a matter of opinion.

One would argue the amount of "almost" scoring, and the jubilation of when a goal is actually scored is what makes soccer so appealing.

Honestly I was gonna say this. Im not even trying to be racist but I rarely see Hispanics, Asians, or people from the Middle East that are very tall here. Im not sure why but all the really tall people are either white or black.

When I say really tall I mean 64 and over. I rarely see other minorities that are even six feet.

I'm gonna disagree with you on Soccer. Pele played barefoot. You can play soccer with a flat, rock free chunk of ground and four random objects to mark out two goals

it's a skill-based sport. height isn't everything. Steve Nash was like 6'3 and really quick with a high basketball IQ. then there are people under 6 ft like Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas. skill takes higher priority than height. the NBA learned this a long time ago.

i dont know about more athletic but theyre certainly on average taller than the average Asian for instance, I dont think thats racist to say. And given basketball is a game where height matters, they obviously on average would have a physical edge in the game of basketball compared to races and ethnicities that are comparatively on average shorter, see the Japanese national team.

Nah. If youre below 63 you basically have to play point guard which is the deepest position in the league. Theres also point guards that are like 66-68 now like Lonzo, Ben Simmons, Cade Cunningham who just went #1.

Skill matters but to even sniff the NBA you have to be at least like 62. Notice how everyone you listed isnt in the league anymore.

True, basketball does rely heavily on skill and height isnt everything. Height is still massively important, though. No team will ever recruit a 6 foot athlete to play at center, no matter how strong, fast, or skilled they are at basketball fundamentals. All things being equal, height does also tend to affect reach, hand size and weight as well. Like the old saying goes, you cant teach height.

I dont think its a minor issue that, as good they were, there really have only been a handful of short pro players in the modern era.

what about it? Im not saying natural physical edge is the only thing that determines success in top level sports. Just because African Americans on average have an edge in the game of basketball due to their taller average heights doesnt mean that edge would be realized if the culture they grew up wasnt influenced by basketball. Obviously physical differences mean less at the top level of competition because theyre all super athletic, the difference is in skill level, and thats mostly fostered by the culture the athlete grew up in. Does that make sense?

Steph Curry wasnt recruited out of college because he was too small. Curry is 63 by the way. Anthony Davis went from barely any buzz to the #1 prospect after growing seven inches.

Skill matters but there is a very high floor you have to hit in terms of height to even be considered. Its the difference between even getting a workout and not. Guys in the NBA are huge.
