I wouldn't say reusing characters is a budget issue. Hosonaga is a detective, and the series always reuses those. Soseki Natsume is a historical figure, so I imagine Takumi wanted to get some mileage out of him.

Hm, perhaps. Then again in the opening case of the first game we only had two witnesses so we've come a long way.

Anyway, someone stole another deadly, untraceable poison from the lab. Rei said she tried to withdraw the knife to lessen the poison's impact.

Oh, there's a small opening at the back of the hut, right behind the chair. That's probably where the reporter stabbed her through.

And there's a crack pattern on both the newest photo AND the newspaper photo, further relating that shady reporter to the case.

I was honestly dumbfounded when that photo was presented. It's quite possibly the single most self incriminating piece of evidence I've ever seen, and what it shows doesn't even really add anything to the prosecution's case since they already had witness testimony of Rei holding the knife.

So probably the reporter, R.M. carried the poison with the pen and dripped it into the victim's wine glass.

He's fun enough.

I thought I had posted my final impressions. Dang, and I had a long post too.

Basically this case confirmed that the TGAA games are written as one overarching story. Soseki mentioned a horrifying case that we had never heard before. Because Sholmes forbade everyone of even mentioning it.

Apparently, this case of the haunted lodgings took part after the Garrideb case but before he left Britain to escape the reaper's curse. That must be why in TGAA-4 we had two characters we only saw for like a second (Shamspeare and the guy he was arguing with).

So my guess would be that one of Wilson and Sholmes's misadventures, the one that was written by Iris in the Hound of the Baskervilles, had implications regarding high level of conspiracy involving Britain and Japan. Probably involving the royal family, high nobility, or just important people (Lord Stronghart maybe? It feels like we haven't seen the last of him, though I also got spoiled that he'll be a presiding judge in one of the cases).

And since Wilson was in Japan, maybe some people were worried that he'd blab about the conspiracy (maybe Britain is planning something unsavory towards Japan?). So they sent/instructed Brett to kill him.
The poison research might play into it as well somehow, maybe Britain or some British baddies want to develop a totally untraceable deadly poison for assassinations and/or chemical warfare.

And now, we're continuing to case 2! Oh, its title contained the Clouded Kokoro again.

We're back with Phoenicius! Poor guy. It feels empty without Susato around.

Well, we got a letter and we shared it with Sholmes and Iris. And it made us reminisce about the horrifying, heinous, tragic, worst, most despair-inducing case in the history of mankind. Here we gooo.

We're back on the day after Soseki's acquittal. The victim has woken up! My! It'll be nice to talk to that adorable little lady.

...and it does feel nice having Susato at our side 'again'.

Yeah, that's endearing but...poor guy lol. He can't be a criminal, everyone would figure it out in the blink of an eye.

Anyway, Garrideb is telling us about how he can deduce what the other tenants are doing by seeing how his lamp lights up. And Shamspeare's and Sosuke's rooms use slightly different amount of gas. This already reminds me of a logic puzzle and I hope it won't be too annoying when it inevitably comes up in the trial.

Soseki mentioned that the previous tenant, a young man, died mysteriously. He also mentioned that he feels like someone was watching him.

And since there was a mention of coal gas or something in one of the headlines at the beginning of the case before the flashback, I assume it's something to do with gas heating in a bricked-up room. =-=

Although it might also hint at a few secretly removable bricks like the ones at Shamspeare's window. Someone spying through it?

Also the soal we pilfered from the crime scene had a red...emblem? Mark? On it, but it's gone now. Maybe it was some sort of red liquid filling the soap.

Anyway Shamspeare is now on the stand alongside A Drone Bee Metermann. The latter of whom admitted to spying on Shamspeare's room.

Maybe he knew there was a leakage but don't wanna reveal it? There's a shady we spot below the gas meter...

Either way I have to say Shamspeare's face is up there in my punchability ranking alongside Lance Amano, Maurent LeBlanc, and Wesley Stickler.

Also we recently learned that by blowing into a gas pipe opening, you can make the lights flicker. Blow harder, and you can turn off lights and stoves. Alright, makes sense now.

Shamspeare has been trying to kill Soseki to claim the room and find the hidden treasure.

Oh gee-willikers, alright then. Thanks.

And now they ask me to point a culprit.
This is...hard.

So the one who lived in Soseki's room was Duncan, and before that, the killer (Selden? something like that).

At first I thought it would be Selden because he wanted to poison people who would try to mess with his room. But he's been dead for months.

Then I thought it was Shamspeare, trying to implicate Soseki so he'll be jailed and Sham can get the room. But it's much too roundabout, if he wants to implicate Soseki there would be easier ways to do it.

Then...I don't wanna believe it, but...

Olive Green would have access to poisons, as evidenced by her almost chugging a bottle of poison herself.

She...would have a motive, if she knew or deduced that Shamspeare killed Duncan Ross.

And there was the yet-to-be-explained remains of an envelope, the rest of which was in her possession alongside a letter.

And...and...she said something about watching it until the end. And she was so harsh on herself, just like Susato was when she made that peephole.

Oh god, it's her, isn't it? The sweet and timid and tragic and lovably round Olive Green...

...dammit.
