Explain why you think my post was deflecting.

Because that's literally what it was.

Like, you didn't respond to the point at all. You just went 'b-b-but toxic male characters'.

Even if you have a point, not saying you do or don't, but it doesn't address the issue. You're just saying another issue exists, which is deflecting.

Everyone treated Fry like shit. Leela only developed feelings for Fry, after he almost dies trying to save her life. Relationships built on that kind of drama never last.

And no, that's not deflecting. It's the literal definition of deflecting that I'm referring to.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/deflection

Definition of deflection
1: a turning aside or off course : DEVIATION

You deflected the argument, turned it onto another course. That is literally what happened.

But, I'm sure your wikipedia article and it's 0 mention of the word deflect or any variation of it is more reliable than the dictionary most people use these days.

Some of the loudest voices about this are people (not speaking about the TC) who are very anti anything progressive. Meaning women in general. So I don't want to give my full support to it. But it is true .

Look at Abby for example. And Teela , she yelled at parents right after their son "died " Right after everyone was telling her how great she was. Look at Carol Danvers she went for a good nature person who would tell someone off if they needed to. To someone who arrest people before they do crimes.

Oddly one of the only people to escape this in recent years is Rey. And that is because they throw away her own story and made her all about fucking kylo.

Nah I just recognize users known for shitposting.

Regarding your failure to understand synonymous terms, deflection literally is referring to a psychological defense mechanism of shifting blame away from yourself or your group, whereas I have no horse in this race and I'm offering criticism of the premise itself. Otherwise any time you bring up something else in a discussion would be called deflection.

https://www.restorationstherapy.com/deflection-a-defensive-tactic/
https://www.bricefoundation.org/single-post/2019/06/04/psychological-deflection

The problem with getting upset about this is that it ignores the underlying problem (actual toxic masculinity). When someone calls you out on ignoring the root of the issue and you get upset that you got called out, calling it deflection shows how disingenuous you are when acting like you really care about the problem.

Usually the disingenuous actor's playbook goes like this:
Step 1: *accuses critics of deflecting*
Step 2: *doubles down*
Step 3: *ad homs*

You're on step 2 now.

Rey did not escape hate.

She might not get as much as some of the other women, but she still got it. Maybe it's because people were more distracted by the other problems going on -- like beloved characters getting ruined and territorial pissings over what was or was not canon.

Ooooh, FlameTurtle, alright. Back from your banning already, eh?

Call it what you will, but I wasn't referring to that. I was referring to a deflection of the argument. Because, by the ACTUAL DEFINITION, that is deflection.

And I don't care about the problem. I never did. I just posted to say you were deflecting, which you did.

Twist it into any psychological term you want, because it's not the term I was using. Lol.

Nope, never interacted with you before.

Falling back on pedantism to disguise your misunderstanding isn't the best look tbh. Imagine thinking this is a sensible exchange:

Person A: "Why is <insert minority group> behaving like this? Isn't that awful?"
Person B: "Why not address the underlying problem that led to this situation?"
Person A: "Stop deflecting!"
