Jordan was synonymous with basketball in the late 90s. Even people with zero interest in basketball or any sport knew who he was.

Literally everyone knew who Jordan was in the 90s. He transcended just being a basketball player even without social media. Lebron is not comparable in fame or popularity, and its laughable to even suggest that he is.

Jordan was a monster international star because of the Dream Team.

In my experience, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman are more famous than Lebron in Japan among non-basketball watching adults thanks to the 90s Bulls

That movie was pretty awful. Only 2 jokes really hit the spot off the top of my head. The TNT joke and the Michael Jordan joke.

The first movie isn't as good today as it was then, but it's still a good movie.

I was surprised how little screen time the other basketball players had in the movie. I also don't know if I ever definitely knew who at least 2 of the villain basketball players were the entire movie. Also, I thought it was kinda baffling how the scoring was all over the place at the beginning but at the end it was being done regularly (Also that with the way the scoring was that the game was really like 10 made baskets to 1 made basket in the first half).

Jordan's still synonymous with basketball and will be for generations, the same way Babe Ruth is synonymous with baseball.

Also the original brought the Looney Tunes back. They were irrelevant back when it came out too.

lmao nope. Looney Tunes was still being broadcasted on Nickelodeon and ABC on Saturday mornings back then. There was also two spinoffs; one featuring Sylvester & Tweety and another with Taz. Finally, despite it ending in 1992, Tiny Toons was still being aired on Fox and Nickelodeon.

On topic: I just watched Space Jam 2 tonight; movie was ass.

Well there are also plenty of new versions of Looney Tunes for modern audiences, but I still don't think people would consider them very relevant today. So it still seems like a pretty similar situation to me.

It's not a similar situation. The Looney Tunes were a big part of the draw for the original because people our age grew up watching them. It didn't make them relevant again. Their relevance is what made the movie popular. Looney Tunes aren't as relevant today because there are way more options than we had as kids.

So I must admit I concede. I went and looked at Wikipedia and they did seem to be on an incline leading up to Space Jam. With a lot of new spin off shows and specifically when they aired on Nickelodeon, which I don't remember ever happening lol.

I feel like there's always at least 1 or 2 different looney toons related shows going on.

Just watched the New Legacy, it was decent and seems on par with the original. Loved the hopping between different animation styles early on, got a little more terrifying once they all became 3d but was overall still entertaining.

Wasn't the non-stop reference fest that I was expecting from the trailer.

Having now watched, the thread title is a little hyperbolic. Is it a good movie? No. It exists in that broad swath of movies that I've seen, went "meh", and will never think about again. You know, like the original Space Jam.

Only part that made me laugh was the Michael Jordan bit. I knew exactly where they were going but it was still funny.

It was definitely too long though. Should have been a 90 minute run time.

Remember those hip-hop Looney Tunes t-shirts from the 90's? To quote Something Awful on them: "I saw them on the shelves, and I saw people wearing them, but it is beyond my comprehension that there was a step in between where someone excitedly took one down and exchanged legal tender for it."
