This is primarily the Berseria team with a lot of Phantasia people, and from what I understanding there's a lot of God Eater people on it (including the)

I read somewhere that skits are relegated to one area only. Between that and there not being victory screens I might sit this one out in protest

Victory screens are nice for the first few hours and then it's just an exercise in button mashing through them as quickly as possible. If the game has some other way in the GUI to show you what items the mobs dropped, or who leveled up or got a new skill, then I say good riddance.

They added a ton of skit like things throughout the game that happen in real time and apparently there are a ton of static skits in camping/cooking sections.

There are quite a few preview build videos going into detail on gameplay mechanics on YouTube and it all looks fantastic. Interesting things like mana only be used for healing and being a shared party resource.

The music is as generic as generic can be. A couple of nice character designs though! And the animation is good. Hopefully Tales fans like this game better than the last... five or so.

Hey, we love Berseria! It's really only Zestiria that people don't like (and with good reason, imo). Even Xillia 2 has its fans.

Berseria was really great but it still felt like something was lacking a little bit. The characters were top tier though and I really hope these generic designs have some depth behind them!

Fans are generally positive about all of the games in this window, save Zestiria, but every one of them after Vesperia has been either rushed, low budget or both. Arise is the first game since 2009 that really looks poised to actually be high quality throughout with no caveats.

Zesteria was the worst not only because it was a actually...the worst, but also because it was SUPPOSED to be just that, the big breakout Tales game with a huge marketing and production push.

Hopefully this one succeeds in doing that. There's been a Tales drought, and people are thirsty since the last one was so good. Mechanically it all seems to be coming together for this one, we just have to hope it comes together on the story and character side if things.

Yes, it's been delayed quite a bit. Covid aside, it really looks like they wanted to get this one right.

These are the easy winners, but most Tales games gave great OPs, even the bad ones.

I just wish they stuck with the Vesperia idea to have and English and Japanese vocal track, but I suppose the artist has to be able to sing in English, lol.

The best Tales opening is legitimately Symphonia's non-vocal song that played in the original English version. It's not something I would listen to out of context, but every time I loaded up the game it got me super pumped to play. Set the tone perfectly. The other openings are more like standard anime fare, which is fun and all but not as effective as getting me hyped.

Are there any that are straight up bad, honestly? I mean I guess Graces might not be someone's genre, but it would be crazy to say it's actually bad, it's one of the best I think.

I don't remember ANY of the side game OPs, though. Maybe ToS2s sucks or something.

I will hear no arguments about Xillia 2 being the best OP. And now Arise probably slots in somewhere around the Zestiria/Symphonia range.

I wish Berseria's was a bit longer maybe. I know it's not actually shorter, but the soft opening is so long it feels like it is.

The thing I like most about Berseria's is how it kind of mirrors the tone of the actual game. Starts out all soft and peaceful, goes super heavy for most of the runtime, then ends on a serene and more uplifting note. Nice little bit of symmetry.
