The trope of trans deceptions is arguably the main reason people hate them (especially trans women) so much, including being the entire basis for the persistence of the "trans panic" defense in places that still accept as a justifiable reason to murder trans people (most of the US). Sure, one joke in one movie isn't exactly going to single-handedly set the trans rights movement back by decades, but it's nevertheless part of a body of media that inspired and reflects a culture of anti-trans hatred. Does this mean you can't like the movie? Of course not. It just means that, if you're paying attention to the world around you and how people are affected by depictions in media, you should recognize that that particular scene really isn't okay, even if it was acceptable at the time it was published. You should also recognize that some people are going to be put off of the movie over it, and respect that instead of telling them to stop being so dramatic over something that legitimizes their murder. --- This is my signature.
