Anywhere between 1-4 years.

2007 - Mom and dad let me drive a late 90's Buick Regal. They had bought it from a friend, but when my dad had a stroke, they gave it to me with my learner's permit. Some lady failed to yield at a stop sign and ended up totaling the car in early 2009. (About 2 years)

Mid 2009 - Parents bought me a 1999 Saturn SC2. It had oil burning/leaking problems. Mid-late 2011 on my way to college classes, I seized the engine due to lack of oil. (2 years)

Late 2011 - Parents bought me a 1995 Plymouth Neon. It had oil burning/leaking problems, but that did not do it in. I think the car had a complete electrical failure in mid-late 2015. Ended up buying my next car on my own in December 2015 and junked the Neon. (About 4 years)

December 2015 - I bought a 2009 Ford Focus. That car drove like a champ. Got hit on the highway in November 2017, totaling the car. (Almost 2 years)

December 2017 - I bought a 2013 Ford Fusion. The transmission flares from 1-2 and 2-3, but otherwise, drives fine. Still driving it today.

two and a half years. I got this car (my first) in November 2018, a few weeks before I got my divers license. It's a 2010 Nissan, but it runs okay. Hopefully I'll be able to get a new car by the end of the year

I inherited a 97 Saturn about 12 years ago. Its my short around town errand car. The ceiling fabric is gone and the AC doesnt work but it only has 136k mi and costs very little to keep it on the road.

My first car I had for... 3 years I think. Some old dude ran a red light and totaled it.

Second car I had for 10 years, catalytic converter got blocked and made the cylinders stop firing. Cost of repairs was more than the car was worth with the "We could find more wrong with the engine once we go in to fix it due to the blockage" yep that was done for me.

Then I bought a new car I'll probably keep it till it's a waste too.

I'll have had my current car 10 years next Friday. I plan to drive it into the ground, though I sometimes research new cars that I think I'd enjoy driving.

I've had my current car since December of 2015.

Toyota prius c bought new, bright orange/tangerine colored, almost 76k miles now and never had one issue with it just doing the normal things recommended in the maintenance book like tire rotations, oil changes, etc (none of the extra crap that I don't need)

2001 - First car was an 85 Civic, it would probably still be working if I didnt have to give it away
2005 - 02 Pontiac sunfire for about 13 years, it died going over a speed bump
2018 - 02 Ford Escape (low miles) couldn't even give me 3 years
Currently driving an older Honda CRV with something under the hood getting louder and more shakey with every idle, but so far so good

I've been driving my dad's 2010 Ford Flex since he died in 2014. It's needed several part replacements, as is expected, and it's got some corrosion problems in the fuse box that can't truly be fixed because that part is now obsolete (I really think car companies should be required to make schematics for their parts public domain when they stop manufacturing them, but that's another discussion), but for the most part it's served me well. I expect to replace it in the next year or two, largely because of that corrosion issue (it caused the whole car to outright stop running mid-drive and refuse to start back in December, which is pretty bad).

Had mine since late 05. I think working less than ten minutes away from home for like a decade really helped keep my car in good shape.

Unfortunately having to drive 60 miles a day six days a week for like a year and a half really wore it out. Its still running pretty well and Id rather not have to get a new car, but I have a feeling that thatll have to happen soon

A good mechanic can find the parts. Even if something is obsolete, they can get the piece from a junkyard.

I have a 2011 Ram I bought in December 2010 brand new, so Ive had it just over 10 years now. Between the army and college afterwards I didnt drive it much so Im barely at 75,000 miles on it. Hoping to get another four or five good years out of it before I turn it into a backup vehicle.
