Do you support Biden's free community college plan?

I think this could be a good thing considering the state of jobs in America and I'd rather see money spent educating people versus keeping them locked up in prisons.

That would be money spent in a positive way while helping people instead of money being used to house people in prisons which does nothing positive for the people in prison.

Presumably it's a long-term investment, resulting in fewer incarcerations moving forward and therefore less money spent on prisoners. Gotta spend money to recover money, too.

No, I do not.

I support academies for learning a trade or skill, so people can start working right away. For example, carpentry, plumbing, coding, things that are useful for work.

For example, many public libraries have online learning academies for learning various skills. This is great and should be expanded in my opinion, and is a very cheap option ($30 per month per user for a couple years is not bad, and I can also make use of it).

But I do not support paying extra tax dollars for an overpriced degree that does not benefit me or society.

you dont think society is benefited by a more educated populous? Knowledge and learning should be valued for more than just tools to sustain capitalism

The cost of community college in California is extremely low, and so is the CSU system; both are free if your income is low enough and you're an independent student.

Californians already pay higher taxes so that we can enjoy this. I imagine if some program was implemented at the federal level that the taxation in the state would change to accommodate for the new taxation at the federal level.

According to my source on crime... SimCity... Crime is caused by population density and pollution.

This means we need to set up rural communities that are not using the relatively toxic 'grid' pattern of American urban planning.

Ok, I'll try not to get on my soap box, but free isn't the solution.

Dems want to make everything free, republicans want to change nothing. Neither side works together to fix the FREAKING BROKEN system we have right now.

Those trillians owed in student loans? They are owed to the government (so basically to the tax payers), they are not owed to the billionares who makes billions every year off our education system in this country. They already got paid.

So don't make education free, but STOP making it cost so much just so rich people can make a freakton more money.
Professors, especially online ones, get paid JACK compared to the money coming in from the students they teach. The actual cost including paying both a teacher and an adminstration to over see stuff, per class would be in the hundreds of dollars max. A class with 20-25 students in each, which each pay $50-$200 for the class (based on number of units), and a professor teaches say 10 classes per semester total would allow the professor to take only $20 to $80 a student, with $30-$120 going to overhead/administration etc.

Classes actually cost 10x that now (or more), which is insane/crazy. The above setup with students taking about 12 units per semester would cost them only $600 TOTAL per semester. The professors would make more money, and you would have WAY more than enough to pay for administration etc.

A 4 year degree at $1200 per year would only be $5000 or so, which most if not all could pay for while going to college, or pay off easily after wards.

Meanwhile why are we REPUBLISHNG new text books every year so students have to buy them new? Especially when they are often available in ebook format now, so you literally are just finding a way to charge students extra money. Stop that, make a new edition if new important information is available, or make a smaller add on containing the extra information (possibly for free) that students can use.

Currently many 4 year colleges to get a graduate degree are charging just under $16k a year. That is 32k in debt (if your not paying any while you go to school) before you graduate. A graduate masters degree jumps up to about $20k a year, so you can end up with 75k or so in debt at graduation and you start accumulating interest on that as soon as you stop going to school.

With a simplier setup where you pay professors and put 1.5x as much as you pay them into admin costs, but nobody makes billions per year profit, you would instead see students paying only $1200 a year for all 6 years. Graduating with either no debt at all, or less than $8000 total for a masters degree.

THAT makes sense.

Screw the FREE.....stop with that crap....your not solving the problem. Your not even helping if you don't change how much things cost (because most students will continue on after the 2 year degree now adays since you can't do much with an AA).

STOP people from making billions off the students in this country. Stop people from making billions off our medical system (pharmaceutical companies etc). We don't need free, we need cost control and to have things that are important to all americans either be non-profit, or have some form of control on how much can be charged.

I don't think the solution is to make Community College free/cheaper. It is already very cheap and most people who qualify for FSA can go for free anyways. The problem is we need to get rid of the thought that Community College isn't a viable education. That isn't something that a president can magically sign a bill to make happen, it requires a lot of promotion and advertising of the benefits of Community College over 4 year Universities.

No one should be going to a $50k+ a year college without a plan for what they want to do with the rest of their lives, regardless of if they are paying for it or tax payers are.

No,
I think the scholarship and individual Private investor funding path is a better option.

its loans that have driven up the cost of schools as much as anything else.

fund government scholarships that post graduation require you to perform some form of service for a period of years. Similar to many teacher programs where upon graduating if you provide services and work in a certain way for ten years your debt is forgiven.

additionally Ive heard ideas about private inventors investing in promising students in the form of where they pay their way then take back a % of their salary post graduation for a period of years.

thats an oversimplification without details or implementation but its based on the academic abilities of the student not a free ride for all regardless if they are studious or not.
