Cost of living is lower here than the US on average, not sure what country you are comparing to though. Check out this YouTube channel that interviews black people who live in Japan: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCM9uvq7NiMDmqZnaepEvc0A An advocate for foreigners in Japan was recently given a special on NHK that I thought was pretty great. She is African and helps foreigners struggling with various issues living in Japan. Their convenience stores are great, the people are quiet and keep to themselves, I love the food, the places in general are nice, I like the weather there, and they have heated toilet seats :3 Also, they have more hot Asian chicks than Hawaii. And their water isnt super chlorinated like so many places on the mainland that I visited. Having Hawaii tap water spoils you, but the water in Japan is good too. And I assume the cost of living is a hell of a lot less than Hawaii. So yeah, Japan is pretty much the only place Id be willing to leave Hawaii for. The one thing that I hate, though, is the slurping. There are probably only a dozen other Chinese people in the whole town (who aren't students), and I think I am the only American. We aren't getting attacked or having racial slurs thrown at us. I wonder how we'd do in downtown USA? Racism in Japan exists, but it isn't in your face like America. A lot of it is microaggressions. The biggest thing affecting most foreigners is discrimination on getting an apartment. A lot of it can be solved by speaking Japanese, but a lot of landlords just flat out don't want foreigners. Thankfully buying a house is no problem.
