I don't really see a practical use for it. I mean, maybe if you live in a really tiny place and the space that thing provides while folded is really necessary, but if your living situation is that dire, I think your priorities should be set on other things than an expensive ass TV.

Certainly looks impressive in their ad but Ill wait and see what normal consumers have to say about it and not the fake rich people in their ad

Being rollable is cool but does it effect the picture quality? Is it durable or is it easily damaged if something comes in contact with the screen? How long will it function before running into mechanical problems?

A ceiling installed version would have been better.

Sounds like what they said about flat panel TVs back when CRTs were the norm. It's technological progression. It may become the standard in time, at which point the price will have normalized just as the aforementioned. That won't stop progression from looking for more new ways to push the new/futuristic technology premium though.

That's pretty cool. It won't really save you much space since you still need to have that space usable but being able to roll the TV away will help your room not to look so cluttered.

I don't see this replacing flat panels as the standard any time soon, at least not until it's only negligibly more expensive than them. It has applications when space is at a premium, but even then, thanks to the base, the footprint is pretty comparable to that of a similarly-sized flat panel on a suitable TV stand, and the footprint of a flat panel can be almost completely erased by mounting it on a wall, so you're seeing very little by way of meaningful gains in that regard. A ceiling-mounted version would be more useful, but again, you're not saving much space over a wall-mounted flat panel (which, even if the TV's cost similar amounts, is always going to be vastly cheaper to install than building one of these into the ceiling). As lihlih said, if saving space is so important that the tiny amount this saves you is worthwhile, you should probably consider saving the space by just getting a smaller TV for a tiny fraction of the price.

By comparison, I hated how bulky and awkward CRT's were well before flat panels were even a thing. When they were new, I didn't consider them to be worth theexorbitant upgrade cost, but as soon as they became more readily available I was very happy to see CRT's go. I don't think struggling to see the point of this is an issue with the tech being too new for people to recognize its potential, I think it's a matter of its applications being pretty niche and not overly useful for the vast majority of consumers.

Yeah, the base will hold it back for as long as it's necessary, but once we're mounting, moving, and storing our TVs with all the simplicity as with hanging pictures and posters, what we have now likely won't last past the point where the price normalizes. The reduction in materials may even result in a lower standard price for size, though a big chunk of any savings will likely have to go toward separate audio hardware.
