3-2 > 5-2 > 2-2 > 1-2 > 6-2 > L-2 > E2-2 > G1-2 > G2-2 > E1-2 > 4-2

This is super tough. I actually really enjoy 2-2... though I guess mostly the later half of it. But 3-2 is just great all around.

2-2 being as tragic as it is, is its strong point but I guess if I boil it down overall, 3-2 is just better.

definitely a little messier than ranking the case 1s, where it feels pretty clear where to tier each case. pretty huge gap between 5-2 and 1-2.

it's interesting seeing the main games pretty clearly above the spin-offs. I guess the spin-offs just aren't very good with their case 2s because it's usually an extended introduction case, either to the "world" or the investigation minigames

I feel like I never liked the middle cases as much as the first game. I think because they didn't feel middle? Like the story really progresses with each case.

Then there is a huge gap of quality imo

I feel like when ranking the cases in each game, -2 would end up in the lower half for just about every game (AJ might be an exception, but that says more about the other cases than 4-2!). Probably AA2 as well, due to that game only having one great case...

3-2 and 1-2 are both good stuff. I voted 1-2.

I stopped playing Apollo Justice completely because I couldn't get through 4-2 lol. First couple hours were just... the worst.

The first investigation day is easily the worst segment in the series. I dread it every time I replay the series.

I really like both 2-2 and 5-2. 3-2, both Edgeworth-2's, and 6-2 are solid as well.

2-2's first trial day is just one of my favourite experience of overcoming a difficult, oppressive situation without it feeling unfair (it's a good frame job which is tough to poke holes in). Like... even when you finally get the Cornered music playing it still feels like you're scrambling for a lifeline in the best way possible.

5-2's just a fun case that introduces a lot of characters effectively and is a neat locked-room murder to crack (I think I may just like these...) and the takedown at the end remains one of my favourite moments in the series.

I agree with this, and I think it's probably part of why I'm not a huge Franziska fan because she's never the same after Phoenix breaks through her attack here.

3-2>6-2>2-2>L-2>1-2>E-2>4-2>5-2

3-2 is top 5 case in the series for me. I love everything about it.

6-2 has a ton of charm and finally gives Trucy some screen time, but it's kind of rushed/cramped.

2-2 would be very good, I think if not for the gunpowder burn stuff and the relatively slow pacing of it all.

L-2 is slightly forgettable but I had fun with the new trial mechanics and (some of) the characters.

1-2 is saddled by the fact that it's still basically a tutorial case and its weaksauce ending.

E-2 features a colorful suitcase and a ridiculously large plane. And I think make passing reference to the fictional country from 4-3, the worse case in the series! Just why?

4-2 is a slog (and I actually like 4-2 more than most)!

5-2 is just not fun. Probably a lot of the humor in this case is lost in translation/cultural difference.

I typically hate cases where the villain is shown at the beginning, but 5-2 subverts so many expectations otherwise that it really breaks the trend of them being too easy to figure out. 3-2 is kinda the same in that regard.

This is also probably going to be my last time ranking the Layton cases because I do not remember anything after this one. But the Fire Witch case was great and really set the tone for the second half of the game.

Voted 3-2, but I gotta give 6-2 some credit for introducing a character that hates the Gramaryes as much as I do. Really the only second cases I'd say are subpar are 4-2 and the ending of 1-2.

This is super funny to me, because here's my list:

5-2 > 3-2 > 6-2 > 2-2 > L-2 > 1-2 > E2-2 > E1-2 > 4-2

No shit right? Aside from me slipping E2-2 in there, it's the same list but with 5-2 at the top instead of the bottom. LOL

Honestly, I don't think any of these cases cracks my top 20. Maybe 5-2 does barely. It has a really fun matchup between Apollo and Blackquill which really drives the whole case, and Damian Tenma is an extremely fun character, probably the most overlooked in the series imo. I think showing the murder at the start of the case was really unnecessary though and removed a lot of possible mystery space for the player, in a case that is actually really long. But ah well - really it's just Apollo and Blackquill that make this lol, they're such good foils for each other even though they hardly ever face off again

3-2 is actually kind of overrated in my opinion BUT the end-of-day-1 twist and the double jeopardy trick is REALLY REALLY good so yeah I do give it credit for that. I think the pacing of this case with its recaps and its boring investigations and it's total lack of an actually interesting murder or murder victim and the sheer confusion with whether or not we're even supposed to be rooting for Ron DeLite or what to even make of him kind of makes this one hard to follow.

6-2 and 2-2 are solid, 2-2 is kinda overrated too, like it has a great final twist and I really like Franziska but the middle drags and it's weird that the killer is caught mainly because Pearl was playing ball in a hallway.

L-2 is actually surprisingly fun if you get past the fact that the murder mystery itself feels kind of pathetically tutorial mode, the characters are fun and the presentation is enjoyable.

1-2 is one of the hardest-to-rank cases in the series - the character work and storytelling are top notch but the murder mystery is so bad that it's impossible to take seriously.

E2-2 is almost good but it's tooooooo long. E1-2 is not that great except for like five minutes at the very end where it suddenly becomes really good. 4-2 absolutely sucks.

I know people like 5-2 but I can't for the life of me understand why. It's not a "bad" case but I just really dislike the murderer. I guess 5-2 introduces Simon, and he's pretty cool - Thinking back on it I would probably go with 5-2 > 4-2> E1-2 instead.

apollo vs simon is really enjoyable. this is almost certainly blackquill's best case.

also i love the setting and the defendant.

Apollo vs. Blackquill is just fantastic, Tenma is a top tier defendant, and I like locked room mysteries in general.

Yeah, Blackquill is good, but hes good in all of his cases and the actual plot and specific characters of 5-2 are pretty mediocre by AA standards imo

Eh, the only character from 5-2 I'd say is outright bad is L'Belle, and even he has his moments.

Blackquill is great in his other cases, too, but his dynamic with Apollo is better than his dynamic with Phoenix or Athena. It's so great seeing Apollo go from clearly rattled by Blackquill the entire first day to finally working up the courage to shut him down at the end.

I also thought 5-2 had some interesting swerves, like complete red herring of the killer entering through the vent. I was also legit surprised by the identity of the Amazing Nine-Tails because they led you to believe his identity was super obvious. They did a great job of misdirection in general in that case.

I'm actually surprised that my pick for this is by far the runaway favorite.

Of course the lowest ranking case I have for the entire series (1-2) has... 10 votes? That case was so bad, I considered dropping the series, because if that was the garbage I was going to get, I wasn't interested in any more of it.
