No hes saying that we know illegal beatings happen and if you dont want to be illegally beaten and threatened dont go to jail and its the fault of those getting illegally beaten and threatened that theyre being illegally beaten and threatened because the situation could be avoided.

No, but they also shouldn't be given special treatment. Millions of people are already subjected to abuse in the American prison system, and yet nobody would seriously consider their release.

I don't know what's true or not in this instance. Obviously they deserve better prison treatment, but I don't trust the reporting. Not exactly Abu Ghraib level evidence. We'll see though.

Pretty much this. If they want to advocate for not going to jail because of the conditions there, they need to advocate for improving everyone's conditions. If they're just whining about their own mistreatment and not caring about anyone else's, "suck it up, terrorist scum" is pretty much the only reasonable response here.

That said, given how many of these groups operate, I wouldn't be surprised if "beaten" means "physically moved into cells when they refuse to cooperate" and "threatened" means somebody told them they'd risk being shot if they tried to escape, or other such pedantic interpretations of assault and threats, but for the sake of argument I'm okay with giving them the benefit of the doubt and presuming genuine abuse is happening.

If a bunch of your friends say come on we're going to commit a crime and you go, don't whine about getting caught when you're caught because you used poor judgment.

You had a choice and made a bad choice so you have to live with your decision good or bad.

I'm genuinely curious how he can manage to spin this. It's blatantly obvious that, like much of what he says, he said something ridiculous without thinking and then proceeded to try to shoehorn his statement into some kind of ridiculously contrived logical framework rather than taking it back, but this one is quite exceptionally silly and I don't see any way he could possibly contort his way out of it. I figure either he'll come up with something so absurd that it's entertaining, or he'll retreat in equally-entertaining shame. Win-win, in my books.
